Football RSVICW N le1 the tall term of 1990 opened at our school the prospects for a wmnmg football team were not very brlght When Coach Murphy came out to the grldlron fxeld the fnrst of practlce he must hate realxzed that he had a 'green bunch of boys to puck from XX nth only ftve regulars V1 school and about flfteen mexpernenced boys to choose from the hope of havxng a wlnnmg team was almost glven up The followlng men were selected from the ca ndldates who reported for the regular team Center Charles johnson Arlle Coulter john Legg Murray Smlth Earl McCune Fred Carper Mark Young Elmer Moore fCaptl Fullback Othel Moore Quarterback Denms Wxlson From the standpomlt of vlctorres we cannot clalm the season was a success But tal nlg the season from the po nt of good wholesome excrcrse obtamed the prmcnple of umty and organlzatlon Involved ln the game and the general good fellowshlp develop ed we claim the season a success Basketball Clay County Hlgh School basketball team opened the season by defeating the strong Gassaway Hrgh team on Clay Hlghs floor The whole five Legg at center D Hull and M Young at forwards and E McCune and WIISOU at guards played well The score at the end of the fnrst half was 5 3 nn favor of Clay and at the end of the game nt was 9 8 Another wery mterestmg game was played between Cowen and Clay The game was hard fought but the boys ln gold and blue came out as victors to the tune of 26 17 The Clay team showed fme floor work nn all parts of the g me all the boys playxng well eepeclally E McCune and WIISOH at guards Next years team should be one of the best that Clay Hlgh has exer known Only one member of the team graduates Earl McCune but there will be a fme lot of boys to t lff- the mlss ng mans place Among the ultstl utes that showed up well this year x c P Young at center B McCune t for d and Andrew Boggs at forward Sntty five .
