MCCOWEN Counqf Superintendent B.S. Degree, Ohio University: Master's Degree, Northwestern University: has attended Otterbein College and Harvard University. Mr. McCowen said in a statement to us: The rural schools of Scioto County shall continue meeting the demands of its youth. We are very proud of our students and their achievements. It is hoped this year, as in the past, that our seniors will enter their roadway of life with high ideals and a very good educational foundation. In these trying times, perhaps more than ever before in our history, the United States of America needs strong members of its society--members who have firm and solid ideas as to the democratic way of life. We shall keep providing strong curriculums and school facilities for our ever growing population. All of are determined to constantly serve our purpose to- ward the progress of our society. The School Board Members left to right are: Mr. Chester Chapman, Mr. Ron I-lorsley, Mrs. Alfred Miller, Clerk, Mr. Robert Allen, Mr. Charles Vanderpool, Mr. Glenn Moritz, and Mr. Carl D. Bandy, Executive Head. 94 l CARL D. BANDY Executive Head ,f. No one can foretell with exactness all of the new wonde.. which our scientific and technological forces will produce to- morrow, but we can be sure of thisg that more and more of the unknown secrets of the vast universe in which we live will be unlocked, and as each secret door is opened Cas in the case of atomic energyj it will have a great influence on our lives and the lives of those we love, A I think we, as teachers, and you seniors can all agree that these important changes are all about us and are crowding in upon us with ever-increasing speed and pressure. The big ques- tion is what can you and I do about it? To many it may appear that there is not much that any individual can do about it, that one might just as well relax and try to enjoy what comes. In my opinion this attitude is much too passive, much too pessimistic, and much too defeatist. There are things that we can and should do about it. Even though we may never wish to master these great changes, we can still strive to understand them and to adjust and adapt ourselves to them to the maximum of our capacities. That, to me, should be the aim and goal of every member of this senior class. Equally, it should be the aim and goal of every man who thinks and reasons, which after all makes the main difference between him and other members of the great animal kingdom. I wish to congratulate the members of the graduating class of 1964 upon your success this far. We must never be content with our progress thus far, however, and our sights must be placed and planned on the years to come. It is our sincere wish that you succeed in whatever you plan and attempt to do. We hope that your years at Clay High School have been happy and valuable. May you always remember and cherish your school. 95 ROBERT EST EPP Principal -'x,-N Jerry Holbrook and Linda Trimple receive MRS.
