V XE 5 . ir Q N5 in E 5422353 M 'grind will HISTORY OF SENIOR CLASS OF' 1947 The seniors of 1947 began their excitmg years of education in 1937 with Loyce Gwathmey as their teacher Ten of the original students remain Edgar Conrad Gerald Wood B111 Smotherman,I-Ierby Termain, Betty Cald well Ruth Faye Brunson, Marisue Harred, Bobble Laycock, Lila Renfro, Maryanne Walker a.nd Frances owry The class began to feel a little more at ease tn the second grade Rath Cox was their teache M1ss Madelme Avent taught the class in the th1ro grade Miss Elizabeth Barret, now Mrs Henry Finley of Claude, taught tne class in the fourth grade when Annie Luther Joined the class the class rn the fifth grade Miss Lauver taught the class in the seventh grade Kenneth Mathews joined the class that year Mrs Porter also taught the class in the eighth grade The class be came much larger when the personalities of Bill Robinson, Neda Ruthe Blakeney Emery Goodin Carroll Posey Donald Schmidt, June Goodin Rubye Lee Berry, and Jo Jean Davis joined the class The bewildered freshmen entered high school under the sponsorship of Frances Morris The 11ttle band was to increase still more as Junior MoAda.ms, Jean Clark, Robert Halsted, Howard Dye, Jeanne Scoggins, a.nd Mildred Doyle joined the class Jo Frances Stoner was Sophomore sponsor Jimmy Bagwell, Leonard Bagwell, Delbert Hundley and Maryanne Walker joined the class durmg their J umor year Margaret Doak was their sponsor Byron Brown joined the class 1n their last year of school Nr Morris and Miss W1egman were their sponsors And thus, students, patrons, and teachers of Claude High School, we find thirty seniors about to gradaate from school They are ever keeping inmind their senior motto of To strive, to seek, to find, but not to yield. 7 s .
