A v 4 1 THD TICET. Controftfersia Club The Clontroversia Club, of twenty-seven members, was organized in October, 1927. The officers are: president, Helen Erickson: vice-president, Gertrude Eilertsong and secretary-treasurer, Sara Erickson. A debate team was chosen after several try-outs. These making the team Were: affirmative, Miriam Skriiko. Lois Terpening, and Bernadine Dalyg negative, Sara Erickson, Patricia Boyd, and Elva Birkenfeld. This is the first time in several years that Clatskanie High School has participated in county forensics. The first interschool debate this year was held March 8. The Clatskanie affirmative with the Rainier negative ended 3-0 in favor of Rainier: Clatskanie's negative at Vernonia ended 2-1 in Clatskanie's favor. The second debate was held April 9 with Clatskanie's affirmative at St. Helens: the judges favored St. Helens 3-O. Clatskanie.'s negative met the St. Helens affirmative and the latter won by a 3-0 decision. The rfuestfcn used frr both debates Was: Resolved that the United'States should not grant the Philippines their immediate independence. We did not hope to Win many debates this year, but merely laid the foundation for a winning team in the future. With those still in school who took part in forensics this year and others who have become interested in it from listening to the debates we have the nucleus for a sucessful team in the future. Miss Havden erved as a very successful coach this year. l l' .s , Q if V, L MJ- I ' ' Wim if . ' ' , S ' '. I ! iii., L ' H -F,i'pv'5:k Y Af . T
