X A 'fa rl. THE TIGER quarter Scappoose made a touchdcwn and a field kick and were accordingly chalked up with 7 points. Both teams work- ed hard during the third quarter, but neither side succeeded in scoring. Scappoose scored a touch down duing the fourth quarter. The goal kick failed to go over the goal, leaving the score 13-6 Scappoose's favor. Sundberg was the star player on the Clatskanie team, and several times ran away from the swiftest opponents. Zimmerdahl, one of the old standbys of the team, was forced out of the game by injuries, leaving the line considerably weakened with less power to withstand the rushes of the Scappoose players. On October 21 in the gridiron contest with Astoria the Tigers were walloped 34-0. The Clatskanie team started the game when Johnson kicked off. Early in the game Astoria scored two touchdowns, but did not make any more successful plays until the last half. Thomas, Stratton, and Sundberg played a fine game. All plays coming their way were blocked and the heavier opponents of the Tigers did not s-ucceed in the plays through the line but made use of their quick back- field in passes and end runs. The Tigers played a tie game November 5 with the Vernonia eleven. The game was a thriller all the way through. The teams were evenly matched, and at the last quarter the score stood 0-0. The game started with Vernonia kicking off. Gra- ham recovered the ball with a large gain for Clatskanie. It was a hard fought game from start to finish with the last half given over mostly to punts. Vernonia came startlingly close to their goal twice and a touch down seemed inevitable, but due to Puzey's long punts they were put far back on the field. Vernonia substituted in the second half but Clatskanie did not use any subs.. St. Helens won a decisive victory over our team by a score of 13-0. On Armistice Day the boys journeyed to Rainier to put their skill against the Rainier warriors and came home with the short end of 37-0. A large crowd of students and football fans watched the battle which was fought in a sea of mud. The last game of the series was to be with Seaside. How- ever, the game was postponed. The line-up for the year was as follows: Backfield, Zimmer- dahl, Graham, Holombo, Henderson, and Thomasg Line-men: Finley, Puzey, Doran, Viuhkola, Orwig, Campbell, Karasti, Erickson, Stratton. The boys were under the capable coaching of Mr. Wilcox who has trained them in previous years also. 40 Qggf 49' . . 4:1 '1 I f:1fjiff' f -- 21 .0 -1. -sr wat, . THE TIGER Football The football season began with enthusiasm on the part of both students and players. Although the Tigers were not so successful this year as during their previous season, much interest was taken in the gridiron contests. The season was opened by a game with Cathlamet on October 1, in which the Tigers scored a victory of 13-7. Clatskanie kicked off to Cathlamet on the 20 yard line. They returned the ball ten yards. In three downs they advanced the ball only three yards and then punted. Holombo returned the ball to the 50 yard line. Then in a series of line bucks, end runs, and off tackle smashes, the Tigers marched down the field for a touchdown. The ball was carried over by Sundberg. The brunt of the attack throughout the game was on the shoulders of Zimmerdahl and Sundberg. The Kelso team was met October 8. An excellent game was played, especially on the defense, but the heavier and more experienced Kelso team was too strong, resulting in a score of 12-0. Scappoose and Clatskanie fought a hard battle on the home field October 14. .The game started with Scappoose kicking off to Clatskanie. Sundberg scored a touch down for the Tigers after the team had forged slowly down the field within 15 yards of the Scappoose goal. The field kick did not go over the goal thus giving Clatskanie a tally of 6. In the second it 3 O 'll If-up 'I as 53. E pm? , YW. x N IT?:EI', . iw K -. - 'Wim'

THE TIGER Basketball This year's basketball season was very difficult. In fact, it was so diificult that the Tigers did not win a league game. But this could be expected, as only one letter man reported, and the rest were inexperienced. At the end of the season only seven men were turning out, and every one was playing on the regular team. The first game was at Rainier. The Tigers put up a hard fight against their heavier and more experienced opponents but lost the contest. Clatskanie dropped the second game to the St. Helens suin- tette, who out shot and out played them all through the game. The Tigers played one of their best games against Astoria, but lost out because of the teamwork of the Astorians. Seaside was the next to defeat the Tigers, but only by a narrow margin. The team then journeyed to Scappoose, where they were defeated by the close checking and good shooting of the members- of that team. S o 'Pu' v-1 Yrjsx -:ui all ., -' l A- I--Tl:
