CLASS WILL-1965 LAWRENCE JOSEPH We, the Class of 1965 of Classical High School, of the City and County of Worcester and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, being in sound health of body, mostly from hiking up and down Salitube's awesome and ancient stairs, and our minds as brilliant as always, and mindful of the uncertainty of graduation, and intending to dispose of all our property of whatsoever kind and nature upon our scheduled departure, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking, of course, all former wills or codicils by us at any time made, of which there have been many. The Class of 1965 bequeathes the follow- ing conglomeration of itemized bequests in the form of poor puns, meretriciously syn- thetic metaphors, unmistakably free verse, and obviously forced rhyme: To our Faculty, amidst a shower of tears, We leave, besides the same thanks and ap- preciation Bequeathed by classes for one hundred twenty years, The services of a merchant of photographa- tion To take new pictures of them for Clamif Myths of future years. I To the Faculty also, we leave the junior Class, And to the junior Class, the Faculty, wishing Lots of luck to both. They will surely need it. To Mr. Charbonneau, noble teacher of French, A photo of France's favorite pin-up: Charles DeGaulle, Plus a written guarantee that he is not A famous seventeenth century French author, Who, at age fifty-one, was destined to fall. To-Miss Shaughnessy, mentor of Room Four, We leave a pair of tickets to her favorite movie-Lam' farm, Not to mention auotgraphs of the vaudeville Team of Guidencrantz and gentle Rosen- stern. Or is it Rosencrantz and gentle Guilden- stern? To Mr. Weed, magnanimous teacher of Bi- ology, Eye of newt, and toe of frog, Wool of bat, and tongue of dog, Adder's fork, and blindworm's sting, Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing. Linda Davidson leaves her memories Of happy days at Chandler junior High, And Room Two leaves to Mr. Brooks A clock which always reads 8:05. To Mr. Koki we leave an of course, or three or six. I5

When the Service Club Essays were judged, Noah Mandell was awarded second prize in the city- wide competition. Our cheerleaders also placed second in the annual con- test at David Prouty High School in Spencer. Classmates of ours who were on the team included Sally Bates, Cynthia Bergstedt, Karen Freedman, and Gale Thurston. In May the junior Prom was held at the Hillcrest Country Club. As the Queen, Carol McLaughlin had a de- lightful evening reigning over our Enchanted Isle. Cynthia Bergstedt, Joyce Bloomfield, Paula Miskinis, Carol Seega, Gale Thusrton, and Carolyn Wolk were members of the royal court. Thanks to the efforts of Mike Miller and Neil O'Leary we had an unusually successful season in tennis as we placed third in New England. While the boys were busy with their rackets, Liz Oginsky and Ricky Sandler were rehearsing their parts for the upcoming Senior Play, Our Hearts Were Young and Gayf' At the graduation exercises in June, Tommy Mattimore received the Har- vard Book Prize, Paula Bergin, the Aletheia Prizeg and Hank Payne, the john D. McKinley Book Prize. The summer months passed quick- ly, and we began our final year at 222 485 by voting for a new slate of class officers. Charlie Andreson was elected president, Gale Thurston, vice- C LASS HISTORY lConfinuedl president, Linda Davidson, secretary, and Mike Backer, treasurer. Shortly afterwards, we learned that Ijarry Kegeles, Tommy Mattimore, and Joel Rosen had been named Semi-Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. jimmy Barron, Cynthia Drougen, Stan Greenberg, Larry Joseph, Noah Mandell, Peter Os- trow, Hank Payne, Alan Sherr, Lu- cien Teig, and Eric Yoffie all re- ceived letters of Commendation. Our football players were led onto the gridiron by Charlie Andreson and Greg Mahan, the only starters who were returning from our Worcester County Championship Team of 1963. Although we had a rather dismal season, both the boys received All- City Awards for their outstanding per- formances. Before we knew it, we were back donating more money to the College Board people. If the funds in Princeton, New Jersey failed to sur- pass those at Fort Knox, it was through no fault of ours. While we were getting ready to take the achievement tests, we were also busy filling out college applications. Once we mailed the completed forms, most of us were free to worry until we received the final decisions in April. November was unofficially declar- ed tiger evacuation month, as the firemen came to visit us serveral mornings in a row, Whenever a bell rang, we began to wonder whether it was just another bomb scare or whether it was something really unusual like the beginning of first period. In December a resolution to preserve the name of Classical was defeated by a School Committee vote of 5-2, and the Mayor left Noah Mandell somewhat disillusioned. Larry Kegeles was selected as a cla- rinet player for the 1965 All-Eastern Orchestra. A turn-away crowd supported the Senior Hop in February, and the dance was a stunning success partly because our Anti-Poverty Bill had a no refund clause. Under the able direction of Ricky Sandler and the executive committee, the Senior Vari- ety Show was presented at Burncoat Junior High. Many Happy Returns was quite an eventful celebration of Classical's 120th birthday. For a change of pace Twelve Angry Menu was chosen as the Sen- ior Play. The dramatis personae was lengthened to include a few fe- males, and as usual Bobo purchased a patron's ticket. Ricky Sandler, Mari- lyn Swartz, and Eric Yoffie had lead- ing roles in the production. With the passing of this week's activities our stay at Classical draws to a close. The Senior Prom and Graduation will be added to our memories of three wonderful years, and we shall all look forward to playing Who's Whom at our 25th reunion.
