THE HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1004. GRACE C. HEALV. i pf' N THE morning of September 4, 1900, an observer, a stranger to this city, walking fn? along Main Street, noticed the groups of U children, boys and girls, and H young ladies and gentlemen, -unquestioned signs that school had begun. Following -H more closely, he saw interesting illustrations of the latter type, turning up Walnut and Maple Streets. Four or five Seniors talking together, trying to appear full-fledged, a few Juniors, who scarcely gave their staid superiors due honor, and a group of rollicksome Sophomores not caring to what class they belonged. But this observer gave the most of his attention to a group at which the others looked ask- ance. He noticed the pretty girls and the intellectual faces of the boys. He followed them up the hill, never dreaming that they were the boys and girls who were to make the Class of 1904 of the Classical High School the famous and distinguished one it is. In fact, he became so in- terested that he followed them unnoticed into the big building on the hill, and this is what he told me.
