LANGUAGE LABORATORY The language laboratory of Classical High School complements conventional studies of French and Ger- man. With fifteen booths for listening and response, and nineteen ear phones for comprehension, students hear various foreign speakers. All receive individual correction for the improvement of translation and accent. As other students do not hear a pupil's mis- takes, self-consciousness is eliminated. In addition, students of the advanced French course record and listen to their own voices. Also, the laboratory is open for interested students on Tuesday mornings before school. Mrs. Perkins and her ncient History class. l HISTORY A Spartan's life is so unpleasant . . . no won- der he throws it away lightly in battle . . . Mr. Muzzey . . . laissezvfaire economics. Classical High School requires the study of Ancient and American history, and offers an elec- tive in European history. This year, Mr. Paul Gleeson, department head, organized a senior class in American history which experimented in the use of Thomas A. Bailey's the Pageant of America which empha- sizes the philosophy of history. This college text will be adopted by all Amer- ican history classes next year. The Amberrt Serier in American Civilization is used in the Senior year. A few of the books in the series, which are read, are The New Deal, Evolution or Revolution? and john D. Ranke- feller, Inilartrial Statesman or Robber Baron?

V FOREIGN LANGUAGES Do you expect a yes or no answer? . . . Round your lips, place your tongue against your lower teeth and say e . . . sic ait. Classical offers courses in Greek, Latin, French and German, under the direction of Miss Charlotte A. Wetherell. Students have the opportunity of follow- ing a three year Greek course and a four year Latin course. In the modern language classes, oral usage is stressed. The study of each language oifered is supple- mented by the study of the appropriate cultural back- ground, and such classics as the Iliad, the Aeneid, Cymno cle Bergerac, and Wilhelm Tell are read in the original. Students in the fourth year advanced French course do original writing and study the literature of great French authors, as well as presenting many oral reports. These classes are conducted entirely in French. WE MUST HAVE lost something in the translation, sigh Mike Leeman and Tom Hill as Mrs. Leeman points out an error. Three maniples in a cohort .
