LANGUAGES One day. Caniehe. a eute little French poodle. whispered to me in a low. soft voice, Mje vous aime heaueoupf' l smiled rather kindly and hoped that she was saying something complimentary. How- ever. as soon as we parted company. l seampered down to Mrs. Smithis room to find out exaetly what Caniehe meant. Mrs. Smith persuaded me to take an elementary course in French so that l could converse with Caniehe. Elated hy this idea, l trotted into Miss Augeifs room. She heguiled me with her fascinating aneedotes ahout the people. places, and dogs she had seen on her travels. How- ever, Miss Auger had a stark of papers on her desk: so l did not detain her any longer. Peeking into Miss Shaffefs room, my interest was aroused hy Miss Dean and Miss Shatter who were playing an enthralling game ot' sf-rabble . . . in Latin. Uverwhelmed hy their alrility, I slipped out of the room. ln the hall. l passed Dr. Miller. his hands tilted with a staeli of Helmrew hooks. l smiled hrightly' and trotted away. Mrs. Corhin and Dr. lfredrielx were deeply engrossed in talk when l notieed them in front of the teachers' exehange. They drew me into their conversation. whieh con- eerned foreign lands. Much to my regret l had to leaye them soon. for Canim-he was awaiting nie.
