Besides learning the importance of phys- ical fitness, Comets learn how to act within a group. Sportsmanshipis stressed in all Phys- ical Education classes. Volleyball, swimming, baseball, and basketball are some of the activities in which they participate, and they learn the funda- mentals of motor skills. Miss Dean's Modern Dance class learns motor skills. These girls are often asked to dance for various organizations. MISS MARY BRUCHER Department Head BS, Southeast Missouri State College MS, Colorado State University COMETS EXCEL AS GOURMET A D STYLIST The Foods instructor, Mrs, Ethel Preble, teaches her students the basic functions of all foodstuffs. They learn whatcooking methods will retain the beneficial qualities, and how they are properly balanced to form a nourishing diet, They also learn how to prepare foods with the least possible waste and how to save steps in cooking. Clothing, taught by Miss Mary Brucher, is another course of Home Economics offered at Classen. A girl is :aught plain sewing and mending atfirst, and then extends into every phase of the selection, manufacture, and care of clothing. She must be able tojudge textiles, leathers, furs, felts, and other materials to get the best possible values. Sewing teaches her how to get the best out of A little help from Miss Brucher goes a long way as Marilyn Story is finding out. 26 clothes because clothes make the woman, Are these students really enjoying sewing or has Peggy Johnson cracked a joke?
