www-3' As the world gets smaller in this jet age and the peoples of every country become close neighbors, it becomes more and more important to understand and speak fluently the languages of other countries. Students at Classen have the opportunity of taking at least one of three foreign languages, Four years of Latin are offered, and two years of French and Spanish. Miss Ruth Snell is Latin teacher, Mrs. Linda Harris teaches French, and Spanish students are taught by Mrs. Ann Fowler and Mrs. Sonia Lombardo. Mrs. Lombardo's students are exceptionally lucky because she is from Puerto Rico and can give them the benefit of native speech. MISS RUTH SNELL MRS, ANN FOWLER AB, OU BA, West Texas State Department Head MA, New Mexico Highlands PARLE T, LOQUENTUR 5 1 Q i 3 Mrs. Fowler is shown at left operating the language lab, which is the newest method of teaching foreign lan- guages. She listens as her students fbelowj repeat words and phrases through microphones. This method of teach- ing has been found to be effective in developing good speech habits.

BONNIE DESSAUER BA OU Department Head C75 E ig s gy fag METS DI PLAY mtg? assist Our Speech Department is an example of the fine teaching staff and bright students that can be found at Classen High School. The debate, speech, and drama students have won many awards in the city and state. Classen's speech department is one to be proud of because of the two fine teachers we have in this department, Mrs. Dessauer and Mr. Sallee, Debate is Mrs. Dessauer's main subject and Mr, Salee's interests lie in drama. Both teachers instruct in speech classes. gigs SPE KI GTALE TS This is an example of a daily routine inthe debate class: Mrs. Dessauer explaining the errors in each student's speech. Although John Harris appears to be watching the birdie instead of listening to Mrs. Dessauer, he and the other debaters appreciate all the guidance and aid she gives them. Come on, statistics can't be that funny! 20 Wt,
