We have at- tempted to reflect the work and the fun, the honors we won, the games we played and the studying we did. For the seniors of '62, the door is being closed, not only on one year, but on a memorable phase of life. We of the staff feel that Classen has prepared her seniors for what lies ahead. For this reason, we pay special tribute to an outstanding faculty. COMET BROWSE, REPOSE Classen is fortunate in having Miss Unferth as librarian. Many Classenites have been helped through the kind and courteous aid offered by Miss Unferth and her assistants. Our library is a pleasant place to study as the newly-installed air- conditioning units offer the student a cool, comfortable retreat from the hustling crowds in the halls and rooms. The library has been further improved this year by the addition ofa fine collection of paintings representing King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Miss Unferth is aided by Miss Amy Sparks and a staff of student librarians. Mrs. Greer and her aides maintain the clinic for the use of any student or teacher who is ill. Professional assistanceis often required during the school day, and Mrs. Greer is always ready to give that assistance. From the tedious work in fundamentals of the intermediate string class, to the precise training in the junior high ensembles and orchestra, and the large performing schedule of the high school orchestra, one can see that Classen has truly earned its reputation for having one of the finest string de- partments in the state. During World War I she served with the Food Administration. ln 1920 she began teaching at Central High School, and came to Classen in 1955. Memberships in professional organizations include Kappa Omicron Phi and Delta Kappa Gamma. Miss Brucher devoted herself to 15 years as sponsor of the Junior Red Cross and our successful Red Cross program was due to her leadership. Now she serves as an adult Red Cross chair- man. ln the spring she proudly exhibits her girls' achieve- ments in class at an assembly. Up until this year, she was a senior advisor. Classen students have learned to admire her for her knowledge of Latin, French, and English. She has most graciously given her home for many of the Latin parties and other activities as well. From her teachings have come some of Classen's most outstanding students. Plans after retiring are not definite but she will more than likely go to her resort in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado. So much can be said of this brilliant woman that the seniors can only wish her continued health and happiness in her coming leisure years. The Senior Class elected Tony Crawford, President, ConnieNorth- rop, Secretaryg ,Tack Fesler, Vice- Presidentg and Mike McCarty, Treas- urer. TONY CRAWFORD STEVE EPPERSON JACK FESLER JERRY SPENCER DEAN STAMATIS Senior - Senior Senior Semor JAN BROWN AND AUBREY KING PRI CE AND PRINCESS OF FRIE DSHIP AtClassen friendlinessis one of our greatest assets, It is only natural that we should be represented by a Prince and Princess of Friendship. Therefore, every year the Student Council sponsors an election to de- termine the most friendly seniors taking part in our activities, This year a very deserving couple was elected, It was a hard choice for the student body, but we finally chose IAN BROWN and AUBREY KING to reign over us, Their scintillating personalities help many to feel at home in our halls. These two were an excellent choice and we congra- tulate them both. EDNA WOTRING TONY CRAWFORD Senior Senior The Friendship Candidates discuss their grades on then first semester English final, Whew! STUDE T COUNCIL ORK A D ACHIEVE Although we all realize that tradition is not sufficient reason for a club to exist, we may be, at times, unfamiliar with the reasons for its existence, The Student Council promotes the activities of the school by the delegation of responsibilities in initiating, planning, organizing and supervising. Each year this organization is responsible for supervision of elections, conductinga fund-raising event fmagazine drivej, char- tering all clubs and organizations, sponsoring a Prince and Princess of Friendship contest, as well as many other projects for the improve- ment of the school. But let us not forget that the prime duty of the Student Council is to strive continually to improve the school atmosphere in such areas that it truly becomes an institution of learning good habits, as part of the Iraining of students for their future activities as citizens, We can be sure that as long as these aims, objectives, and purposes are car- ried out in proper manner, the students of Classen may participate in a Student Council of which they may be proud, LJ XCDIQIS5 ID ,Enf 7' JERRY SPENCER President NIKI MEEK NANCY RECORDS IAN DUNIGAN Vi ce-President Secretary Treasurer ROW ONE: I, Reeves, B, Reeves, P, Johnson, L. Since we cut the ntunber of divi- sions from six small sections to four large ones, each girl was required to work on more than one part. staff credits are as follows: First credits goto Jim Worsley, the associate editor, who did all lettering and artwork and supervised lay-out construction on the book. Selene Main, our business manager, handled all that lovely money the staff brought in from ORBIT sales. To our great pleasure, this was no easy job. Of course, without photographers the book would not be. We had four boys taking pictures this year which was, at times, too many fingers in the developing fluid, but they managed to produce many excellent pictures. Head photographer, Eddie Chechovsky, organized the work for Steve Childers, Tom Harris and Terry Hairfield. This year has been one full of work for the girls who made up the rest of our staff. Here is aresume of the work each staff member assumed: First, l must mention that everyone worked on the class section and the index. Seniors on the staff were Dianne Barker, academicsg Ann Moody, academics, senior sectiong Sue Wayland, academics, senior section. Sue also took the majority of the responsi- bility of the index. The staff juniors were Kay Carothers, organizationsg Lynda Duncan, organizations, head of the senior sectiong Parchinnia Hanley, organizationsg Susie Harris, sportsg Linda Horne, sportsg Carolyn McCracken, organizationsg Clydeane Riddle, academics, girls' sports, organizations. I feel that all these girls did an excellent job this year and I am most grateful to them. Finally, credits go to the Pepsi machine and the popcorn popper for nourishing us during our work. We of the staff sincerely hope that you are happy with the book we have produced.
