'll-if 'H-susan-fl' ACKNUWLEDGEMENT A yearbook is an accurate account of one complete school yearg the book is given to the graduating class of that year as a memory of that last glorious year of high school. We have tried to relate to you, the student, your activi- ties of this year. I cannot and shall not accept any credit for this book, for it would have been impossible without the aid of the staff. It is hard to express in words my gratitude towards the staff members who have put in many extra hours of typing, sorting, and countless other small tasks that make up the 1960 ORBIT. John Bryan, who has done much for the book, is our copy editor. We are indebted to him for the theme of the annu- al, Truth, Peggy Prag, during mountains of mass confusion, managed to balance receipts and money every time. As business manager, she also took time out from ORBIT sales to count money for the student directory. Sue Chech- ovsky, layout editor, has really put in extra hours in drawing up general layouts and taking complete charge of the index, which in itself is a major job. Everyone knows the importance of pictures in a yearbook and everyone knows our photographers, Mark Birmingham and Dale Rose. A deep vote of thanks goes to them for the many hours they have spent taking pictures of one class or another. My thanks go also to Claire Hawthorn and Jane Dewar who edited the student directory, with the able assistance of Gay Elder, Janis Capps, Linda Howe, Peggy Prag, Diane Skogan, and Mary Lou Bramblett. They did a marvelous job and published a very different and clever directory. Joyce Walton, art editor, designed the cover for the student di- rectory, helped in advertising the yearbook with her little people, and ran numerous errands for the staff. The CLASSEN LIFE has been a great help in advertising the 1960 ORBIT and has published many interesting articles about the yearbook and ORBIT queen. Janis Capps handled the senior section this year. Boys' and girls' team sports were capably handled by Gay Elder, Jane Dewar, and Claire Hawthorn. Classes and organizations were skillfully ar- ranged by the rest of the ORBIT staff. The staff members are Karen Robinson, Mary Hunt, Virginia Lawrenz, Jean Huff, Diane Barton, Virginia Brewer, Darlene Aten, Donna Field, Lynda Field, and Donna Fabian. Ialso wish to thank our sponsor, Mrs. Tilsner, who has been wonderful to us this year. We wouldn't have made our first deadline if she hadn't been there to steer us through. Thanks go also to Mr. Fleming, Mr. Acers, Mrs. Booher, and all the teachers who have put up with the constant interruptions and impositions on them. I hope that in the years to come, as you scan this 1960 ORBIT thinking of those youthful years, your eyes will fall on this acknowledgment and only then will you understand and appreciate the many hours of work and worry con- tributed by the staff for you and your book. Thank you, XJEQJLLC. Qiliglvtgg Your Editor

IN THE END TRUTH WILL CUNUUER--WYCLIFFE A staunch pillar of truth declares the radiance of its freedoms. To be strong in truth means defending it, and defending it demands personal integrity. The beauty, the interests, the intelligence, the character, and the ideals of high school youth are expressed in this, the 1960 ORBIT. May it ever remind you of Classen's ideals, loyalty, and devotion to truth, honor, learning, skill, and character. May it be a constant reminder of the strength, the beauty, and the promise of youth.

They express more feeling and fun than a thousand words. This year we have allowed several extra pages for activity shots. Our photographers have always been around when they were needed to photograph all the events at Classen. These pictures include everything from Coronations to football games. We have also tried to present the Junior High in many of their games, dances, and other activi- ties. Since the yearbook is a record of every grade level at Classen we have tried to give an accu- rate account of all the activities that have oc- curred during the year.
