tuilent President In the spring, Comets elect the member who will preside as student president for the coming school year. This is regarded the most im- portant of school elections. Jimmy CRedD White won the '54 spring elec- tion. Qualifications are established by the Stu- dent Council, The president is one of four executive officers and must be 0 senior during his term in office. Candidates must have ci grade average of 3.0 or better at the time of nomination, aver- aged from the semester grades of the two pre- ceding semesters. Slfll llrbit Queen ORBIT QUEEN, one of two all-school queens is nominated in advisories. Each student is given four votes when he buys an Orbit and one vote for having his class picture made. Yearbook sales open in September and continue until Thanksgiving holidays. The first week ln December sees a week of rip-roaring campaigns. Posters of all sizes and descriptions adorn the halls, first floor to third. Banners splashed with sparkle, smiles and slogans span the archways. Tags bearing candidates pictures and slogans are distributed by managers and supporters. Treats, glamour tactics and true charm are given o try out. Campaign expenses are limited. The event climaxes with the most elaborate coronation ceremony of the many witnesses each year at Classen. Members of the Orbit staff sponsor the production. Saramay Wiley, '54-'55 winner, received her crown from her predecessor, Miss Barbara Burbridge, escorted by Bryan Gillespie, Saramay's campaign manager. Other candidates Jane Barrow, Lillian Burrow, Jeanne McClelland and Ann Stephens, with their campaign managers, Ronnie Donaldson, Pete Lee, Jerry Mash and Tom McGee composed the Queen's Court. Theme of this year's production This ls Your Life, simulated a TV screen. A bracelet commemorating the honor was given the Queen. All candidates received bouquets of carnations, -87-
