JACQUE MONTGOMERY BOBBY CLAPP MARILYN STONG TOM GRIFFY MARILYN RICHARDS BRUCE BATCHELOR BEVERLY BELSKY JIM HIPPEN LASSE A ARD When the Medal of Honor was first established by the late Mr. Anton H. Classen, Can early Oklahoma City civic leaderl he said it should be presented an- nually to that boy and girl member of the senior class of Classen High School, who shall be chosen, under the rules to be promulgated by the school, as giving the greatest promise of worthy contribution to the progress of the world by reason af strength of character, record of scholarship, activities of leader- ship and all-around achievements. Mrs. Classen, following the death of her husband, increased the number of awards to ten but still pro- vided for the Medal of Honor award to one boy and one girl. Under present regulations, the highest rank- ing ten boys and ten girls in scholarship in the senior class are listed as candidates for the awards. The Classen faculty then rates the candidates on leader- ship, citizenship and all-around achievement. The highest ranking five boys and five girls are declared the oward winners and one boy and one girl from the ten who are ranked highest are presented the Classen Medal of Honor. ln the 29 years the Anton H. Classen awards have been given, the 290 winners have done much to justify their selection as the leading graduates of Classen High School. The Anton H. Classen Award Association, composed of award winners, was started in l946, for the purpose of establishing a group of all Classen Award winners in order that they may re- ceive benefits of fellowship with students who have received like honors, to perpetuate the lofty ideals symbolized by Mrs. Anton H. Classen's contributions to her community and to inspire its members to great- er individual effort. -84...
