We congratulate the Orbit Staff of 1953- 1954 for a most excellent publication. It contains many happy memories for those who are graduating and will serve as a bond unit- ing and perpetuating a lasting friendship be- tween those who have graduated from our school in the past and those who will carry on in future years. The spirit and philosophy of Classen High School, so charmingly portrayed by word and pictured in these pages, stems straight from the courage, initiative, vision, loyalty, and unselfish service of the student body. This spirit has been developed through a succes- sion of victories and defeats. Every failure, whether great or small, has been a challenge to our young men and young women who rec- ognize dcfeat, but, who refuse to surrender to either failure or defeat. Through the pages of the 1953-1954 Orbit we will be able to clasp hands with those who have gone before and to strive shoulder to shoulder with those who will come in the future, in order that the Comet, which sym- bolizes the spirit of Classen High School, may shine more brightly. May it be a constant reminder of Classenis ideals, traditions, loyal- ties, and devotions. R To the Class of 1954: You have contributed to Classen High School through your work and activities. After your graduation we will follow you with personal interest and prayers for your success. Your school has tried to arrange the pro- gram to meet the extensive and varied tal- ents of its students. May this hook represent culmination of a school career which we trust has prepar- ed you to face tomorroufs problems. May you also know the dignity and joy that comes from serving others and have a sus- tained faith in the integrity of our way of lifef' J. CHESTER SWANSON Superintendent Oklahoma City Schools W. H. It demands above all faith in Amer- ica's future citizens, and unselfish devotion to the best welfare for all edu- catees, regardless of age, race, or location. It's a job that re- quires tested and proved business procedures and a willingness to adhere to one's convictions. Oklahoma City is for- tunate to have men who take the job of school board membership ser- iously. Board of Education Scaled: Mr. Otto Thompson, Mr. Jim Lookabaugh, President, Mrs. L. D. If there's any doubt, consider that one-fifth of the population of Ok- lahoma City is enrolled in the Public Schools. There are more than 1, 5 00 teachers not counting some eighty administrative positions. In the eighty-seven operating units there are approximately 333 nurses, librarians, coun- selors, supply clerks and clerical assistants. These figures do not include cafeteria em- ployees or custodians. Whew! just being a loyal Comet at Classen keeps me snowed under.
