De ervea' One of the highest honors that we achieved during our years at Classen was the ALL-AMERICAN rating of our 1947 Orbit. This is the highest award given in Nation- al competition, by the National Scholastic Association of the University of Minnesota. The critical analysis score booklet, giving helpful comments and criticisms, has been our guide during the preparation of the 1948 yearbook. Although the Orbit staff worked overtime planning photography and layouts, writing copy and banners, it was an enjoyable task. Compiling a yearbook which will always recall memories of our best years -- those spent at Classen - was the aim of the staff, in portraying the activities, accomplishments, and interests of the student body. For the initial tussle the Comets traveled to Seminole where two last period touchdowns gave them a well-earned 20-13 victory over the Chief- tains. The following week Lawton left with the short end of a 14-13 score when two accurate placements by Frank Robinson, and a block kick by end John Reddell, gave Classen its second victory. Classen's beefy forward wall came to life, while a covey of Comet backfield aces uncovered tricky T-formation plays to hand the Capitol Hill Redskins their first defeat, 21-0. Victims of a 20-7 aerial attack were the Northeast Vikings when the Stew- art to Reddell combination clicked for two of the three touchdowns, while husky Guy Fuller was a stronghold on defense. Evidently we were not ready for the game of the year with our bitter rivals, the Central Cardinals, and went down before a powerful running attack to the tune of 20-6. Robinson provided the lone thrill of the Classen-Hollis fray as he scram- E3 G 5 Q , ,. 255 .qgx g L as-5, E ,4 1 9 ' i Li l a 5 11 X20 33, la .S 1555 31.-' -4.2, ea, elaine-r -' Row 1 Andrews Lucy Gonders Malson H Matthews Wright, Bynum, Ellison, Anderson, McCay, Johnson, Rob- inson Clay Shmn Thompson Graves Stewart Milner Warr, Hall. Perhaps over confident the following week Classen met and was defeated by the Norman Tigers, 14-7. Back on the road again. Classen trimmed the Shawnee Wolves, 20-13. Robinson's two downs, and exceptional line work by tackles Nate Graham and john Berg- man, and guards Chet Bynum and Dick Tubb, were responsible for the victory. Outplaying the undermanned Ho- bart team on a rainsoaked gridiron, the season closed with a 64-O Comet win. C, Q Q I 'g30t-'gqf - 5 so 'A 'Q 4i97il' L3 , , P50414 2Oft SS 21 Jones, McClain, Davis.
