UEUIEATIU WE, OF THE 1947 ORBIT STAFF, dedicate am yearbook to Mr. Charles E. Grady, alfectionately known to thousands as Pop Grady, who during his twenty-three years as teacher, debate coach, and vice-principal at Classen has played a vital role in the progress of our school. Mr. Grady's belief that intellectual discipline is not enough, but that social, emotional, and moral discipline are also essential elements in the well-rounded educational program, has provided skillful and understanding guidance, and has set for us a challenging example of adulthood. Since Classen Senior High School opened its doors in 1922, Mr. Grady has had the same enthusiasm, the same interest in young people, and the same fervent belief that speech education is one of the outstanding factors in training for leadership. When Pop Grady assumes his county-wide duties in Iuly, as Superintendent of Schools for Oklahoma County, he will continue his endeavor to give every boy and girl an opportunity to acquire the well-rounded growth which makes human progress possible. ll' Q K , K g 7 ' A Y 5 ., ,MV , f ,gi -,g ww: Y MH. A requirement of the organization is to be interested in drarnatics, from stage-craft to play direction. One must earn, within two semesters, a total of ten points given for various duties in the club, to be ready for initiation. The purpose of the organization is to create more interest in highschool dramatics, and to give to all theatrical experience. Activities are largely actual play production, where varied interests of prop work, make-up, acting, play-production, and stage design may be practiced. Two or three major productions have been given each year. The wheels roll ever onward Through cities, farms, and towns,- O,er hills, through uales and villages Are heard their rurnhling sounds. They passed the ancient farmer With oxen and with cow, And now they roll more quickly With tractor and with plow. They p asse a' the noble hlaeksmith With forge and anvil strong-- Till now they roll hy machinery's Buzzing, humming song. CT hey passed the horse-drawn wagon With automobile and train,- And with even faster modes On the wings of the aeroplane. They rolled on past the monks at work With sand and ink and pen, Till now they move hy printing press, Linking through print all men. They passed the sage and philosopher Withi ever-gainin g power, Till now the chemist and scientist Predict the coming hour. Scores of sturdy young dreamers Dream marvels the Future brings. Glance at the pages of history Before scofing at the dreams of Youthg And see Youth discovering amazing facts, Dreaming their way to Truth. Centuries ago on an Autumn day, A lad lying on the grass of his father's land Saw an apple drop from a tree close at hand. Observing as others fell by his side, His thoughts became dreams and meditation. And that young man discovered gravitation. Another lad sat in his mother's warm kitchen, And his mind was fred with a dream that night. Watching the moths play about the lamplight, And listening to water boil on the hearth, He puzzled- What force tries to burst from the kettle's heat? And on he mused till his dream was complete. One day he captured that power And discovered steam. A new Machine Age was the result of his dream. What are your dreams, O Youth? Guard them and protect them well. Perhaps a new age will dawn from your dreamsj Perhaps a great story all ages will tell. -PAULINE EVANS Junior Uffitersi -Af are LWWA s A31 O r DPXRRO K,QjRO'Ey':3,l,Y5Slllf1ll x Q69 BOB XVOOD I're'rident PROGRESSING in ability as well as in experience, the members of the Iunior Class assume greater responsibilities than they undertook as Sophomores.
