'Q Art Department 'VIISS LOTTIE CONLAN Head of Department MISS MARY I.. LEWIS The objective of the Art Department is to promote creative, pictorial expres- sion through a variety of classes in de- sign, technique, and mediums. A .Fine Arts Degree is offered. This year Classen Art students received twenty of the sixty awards presented by the state in the regional National Scholastic Exhibition. Mu ie Department The Music Department of Classen otfers both vocal and instrumental training. Through the glee clubs 'of the vocal section and tI1e band and orchestra of the instru- mental section, people are encouraged to enjoy and to learn music. The individual in- terest is reflected in the numbers that try out in solo contests., participate in small en- sembles, and further themselves by outside study. Individual interest is also re- flected in the large number continuing this type of training in college. In addition to the courses in clothing, foods, and nutrition, students have an oppor- tunity to study home decoration and child guid- ance. Speech Department The Classen Speech Department is divided into two sections. One section olfers instruction in dehatesand one oi fers training in dramatics, radio, public speaking, and coral reading.
