des 2.1 ,nr Bu iness Education Department 17 MISS MILDRED HOLLAND The Business Education Department at Classen gives adequate training for anyone entering the business field as a bookkeeper, a stenographer, a typist, or a machine operator. An employment agency is maintained hy the department for the purpose of placing pupils qualified for working outside of school. The students in this department have an op- portunity to take the Merit Examinations and the Civil Service Examinations. In the Merit Examin- ations for two consecutive years, Classen won first place in this state, although the participants from this school had to compete with graduates of Ok- lahoma University and Oklahoma A. 8 M. In addition to the courses in clothing, foods, and nutrition, students have an oppor- tunity to study home decoration and child guid- ance. Speech Department The Classen Speech Department is divided into two sections. One section olfers instruction in dehatesand one oi fers training in dramatics, radio, public speaking, and coral reading.
