1,1 may W A new set of school officials for the year l94344 found Classen with another principal, Mr. W. H. Taylor. Having served in the same capacity at Harding and Webster junior highs in previous years, Mr. Taylor was well fitted for the difficult task to which he was assigned. A sense of fairness toward the teachers and stu- dents alike has played an important part in making our principal popular. He hasbeen willing to give much of his time to making everyone satisfied, a hard job for a new man. He has taken a keen interest in our organizations and can be seen at any of the school's activities-either playing volley ball at Teen Town or intently concentrat- ing on a stage production. The students like to deal with Mr. Taylor because he likes to deal with them. W. H. TAYLOR Principal THI YEAIFS D0 BLE HEADER C. E. GHADY Vice-Principal Probably the only man who ever said that he wished he could pay more taxes is Mr. C. E. Grady. Affectionately known as Pop our new vice-principal has been teaching school for forty three years. During twenty of those years he has occupied room ll9 teaching American history and debate. Of the five years he has had a debate team, three have brought him victory in the National Debate Tournament and the only reason he didn't win this year is because there was no tournament. Richly deserving the honor of his new position, Mr Grady says he would rather teach history than anything in the world but that he enjoys his new job as vice-principal immensely Nobody could be around Classen very long without hearing of Pop Grady. He's one of those human dynamos who vigorous ly expresses himself on any ideal in which he believes as any of his debaters or previous history students can testify His enthusi asm on the question of proper diet and good living accounts for the fact that he taught forty-two of those years without missing a single day because of sickness. The llklahoma City School Board Welcomes New Superintendent Coming to Oklahoma City from Columbia University only this fall, Dr. H. V. Bruner has already con- tributed much to the community which has welcomed him as its superintendent of schools. A stu- dent of social and economic prob- lems and their relationship to edu- cation, he is vice-president of the National Kindergarten Association as well as an officer in the National Society for Curriculum Study. For the last ten years he has been Cur- riculum Consultant for Ft. Worth, Houston, the Board of Education of South Dakota, and different cities in Maryland including Baltimore. This is not the first time he has had a chance to become acquaint- ed with our state. He is a native of Missouri and was head of the schools at Okmulgee. ln l924 he left Oklahoma to teach at Columbia where he received his Ph.D. de- gree. Dr. Bruner's theory for teaching lies in this statement: My aim of education is to assist each individ- ual in becoming increasingly self- directiveiintellectually, efficiently and happily self-directive--in en- terprises of value to himself and to others. STEMEN We, the student body of Classen and the future citizens of America, are greatly indebted to the Classen faculty for their con- structive ability, enthusiastic encouragement, and helpful criti- cism in preparing us for advancement in our chosen fields. Classen teachers are well trained in the four divisions of educa' tion: physical science, Iiterary arts, fine arts, and practical arts. Our learned faculty are constantly adding to their own knowl- edge so that we may reap the benefits of a well rounded and up-to-date education.
