Wim Precision in tone and timing are the secret of Mr. Chester Francis's success as director of the A Cappella choir and head of the Vocal Music Department. At the upper left he drills mem- bers of one of the girls' glee clubs. A special class in camouflage art was a new ad- dition this year to the Art Department of bene- fit to those who desire to specialize in that divi- sion of government service. Typical of the English Department is the picture at the upper right in which George Kann, seniorg lean Put- nam, sophomoreg and Ioan Irwin, jun- ior. are absorbed in the works of the many immortal writers represented in their respective textbooks on English literature, Shakespeare, and American literature. A very special guest of the History Department was Dr. Lorna Langmore in the center right who lives in Cape- town, South Africa where her parents have a hospital. She came to- the United States to take a chiropractor's course, and stopped off at Classen to relate to lvliss Blanche Paulys history class some of the incidents she has ex- perienced on the Dark Continent, which she is describing to Virginia Ann Cobb and Loretta Swirczynski. 'S no Enthusiasts of the Math Depart- ment constructed a giant slide rule to operate on a blackboard to enable the whole room to study the same problem at once.
