Dedicafion To the members of the senior class, the pioneers of tomorrow, we dedicate the I939 Orbit. We commend you for your past achievements and challenge you with new worlds to conquer. Preface This year, Oklahomais Golden Anniversary, marks a date for paying tribute to the progress that our state has made during the past fifty years. From the rough, un- settled, frontier country that Oklahoma Territory was in 1889 it has changed into a pro- gressive agricultural and industrial state which boasts of towering buildings, thriving in- dustries, advanced professions, extensive transportation facilities, and educational centers. The past fifty years have been mainly devoted to developing basic institutions which are the fundamentals of progress. Today the essentials of advancement are set up and are ready for this generation to begin the second era of decided progress. In addition to professions, highly specialized, and governmental positions, there are 655 industries in Oklahoma, each offering wide vocational possibilities to the citizens of tomorrow. The modern trend of business is to expand, to advance, and to employ new talent, this should create more positions and opportunities for the high school graduate. The Orbit staff of 1939, in eulogizing the progress Oklahomans have made in the past, has chosen to point out some of the advanced institutions in the state with reference to the high school graduate and his place in the progress of tomorrow. In many of the vocations which Oklahoma offers to its citizens, the high school graduate is already trained and equipped, for other more specialized occupations, Oklahoma has established schools in which students may study and prepare. With the detail work almost completed and with today's eager generation well prepared, there should indeed be a triumphant, sweeping march of progress during the next fifty years.
