C. K. REIFF Mr. Reiff holds the record of longest length of time in the superintendency, seven years, in the city school system. I-le is a capable and personable man and under his guidance Oklahoma City schools have become among the best in the nation. Sdzoal Ewa! The Board of Education members are Otto Rose, presidentg Ed W. Spivey, vice-president, Earl I. Iohnson, Ross Lillard, Mrs. I. S. Poole, Robin Knight, Rosco Price, Day Eezler, and Moses Shilling, member-at-large. They are endeavoring to create and maintain expanding, progressive schools. These men are faced with the prob- lem of erecting necessary new build- ings, making repairs and additions to old buildings and preparing adequate equipment for the entire system. They also must keep the welfare of the teachers in mind-their selection, their salaries, and their security in retire- ment. The school board is responsible for the cost of the upkeep of the schools and, therefore, it is well to know that school costs in Oklahoma City are ex- ceptionally low, ranking in the lowest fourth for cities of similar size in the United States. The members have played a big part in linking the schools with the community and the fact that most of these men are college graduates and successful business men who are very much interested in the schools makes the progressive system used today ac- countable.
