BARTON Szzpcriutemzhzt of Public Schools The services of the lloard of liducation are readily recognized as among the most important rendered by city oliicials. 'Ilbese board members re- ceive no compensation for their vvork, yet they serve on the school board, assuming one of the most important of civic duties, in that they supervise and have charge of the city schools. The school board consists of nine members. liarl li. Leech, president, represents the fourth ward. The other members are: Thomas E. McGee, retired president, of 1028, second ward: -I. O. Crawford, Day Fezler, Cleve Harrell, A. G. lloge, Frank lXlcCall, George A. Reeves, and R. F. J. XVil- liams. J. G. Stearley is clerk and business manager. Oklahoma state, in the organization and management of the public schools uses the district system. Une of the advantages of this system is that it makes every comniuuity directly responsible for the education of its children, and in this way secures the essential interest of the patrons in their local schools to make them rank among the best. These school board members have proved themselves competent to co- operate for the development of the school system. They believe that the fu- ture rests with the youth of the country and they have tried to give them the best educational facilities possible. Under their leadership the growth of the public schools has kept pace with the rapid advancement of the city.
