V- MAKING MEMORIES As Texans conduct Sesquicentennial Celebrations across the state, remembering the past is a favorite preoccupation. It is the hope of the Tiger Claw Staff that these pages will, now and in the future, recall fond memories. Memories of... .. .CHS... ... public service activities... ... the first day of class ... 2 Opening ... practice sessions ... ... special days ... Opening 3 4 Opening ... the last test... ... decorations ... ... the big event... Opening 5 ... understanding ... ... Friday nights ... ... telling it like it is... . sharing knowledge... £ ... and just being a Tiger! A TRIBUTE TO BARBIE BOULWARE Barbie will be remembered for what she truly was —1$ a caring, sharing person who only wanted happiness for everyone. Her gentle personality can best be£j described by her father’s words at her graveside, “Aijj sweet, precious, little flower.” We love you, Barbie. 6 Opening Glenn Acker Mack Humphrey Superintendent Assistant Superintendent BOARD OF TRUSTEES — Jerry Westbrook, Vice-President; Tom Ragan; Robert Millikan, Secretary; Ed Dickson, President; Jack Davis; Nancy Brem; Mack Humphrey, Assistant Superintendent; Gary Wilkins, Assistant Superintendent; Glenn Acker, Superintendent. 8 Personnel 1. As Volleyball 1985 began, Clarksville defeated Paris High (15-10, 12-15, 15-12). After this fine start the season had its ups and downs. Some of the high points were third place in the Mt. Vernon Tournament and victories over DeKalb, Cumby, Queen City, Detroit and Delmar-West Lamar. The season ended on a sad note at the District Tour- nament with a loss to North Lamar, leaving the girls to post a 7-10 season record. Oh, I know you think nobody really knows you, and for the most part you’re right. But I do know that under that gown you’ve got a tee-shirt or a button something that is a little irreverant, if not obscene, and a lot defiant. Of course it’s an obscure message, maybe it’s written in Japanese or it’s a quote from Nietsche or somebody. Something nobody but you un- derstands. Like you. And under that mortarboard is a head full of ideas that are making you crazy. Ideas you can’t talk about. Your friends (and there really are more of them than you think) would just chalk it up to more weird stuff than they usually attribute to you. Believe it or not, your parents would probably understand, but you can’t talk to parents about feelings and stuff. Besides, it would Just make them sad. It would just remind them that you’re almost not a kid anymore. They don't want to lose you, like a little part of you doesn’t want to be lost. You feel cheated. You didn't learn enough. Well, you didn't learn enough of the things you wanted to know, and it seems like with every passing day lately, your world has just gotten a little smaller. But if you tell anybody that, they just say you’re conceited. Which you are. But then you deserve to be, right? There’s just not enough around here for you, because, even though you don’t know what exactly it is you do want, you do know what you don’t want. You don’t want a dull life. Most people are content to take their excitement in small sips. You gulp it down. You’ve got an appetite like a schooling bass, and they’re about to open the hatchery gates and let you out into that wide open water. You don’t know what to expect, but you expect It will be fabulous. I’ve got news for you. It will be. But it won’t be what you expect. So here’s a little preview. There’s music and lights and tastes enough to fill a carnival, and sweet sins enough to fill a couple of Bibles. And you’ll do all that for a while, un- til you find eating your fill of that still leaves you hungry. But some of the best things to learn are part of all that. It still can’t teach you what love is, but it can show you what it isn’t. It isn’t something anybody can tell you about. They can only show you. And it’s quite a show. Just remember you aren’t part of the audience. You’re a performer. And you can’t avoid the pain, if you’re really living as completely as you want to. There are traps, but they are devices of your own making. They are on the streets like roaming packs of mongrels. They are baited with trust. They can be as simple as the beckoning in someone’s eyes and as complex as the fire in your own blood. There’s art, which is the greatest trap of all. Remember the lesson of Vincent’s ear, and remember that art isn’t beauty; it’s Just something to remind you of beauty. Art is just a string around your aesthetic finger. Beware of yourself. You are prone to excess, so try to remember to practice moderation in all things. Including moderation. You need to go to an extreme every once in a while, Just to clean out your mind. Beware of your body, It's a creation of your mind, not a part of it. Beware of your mind. It’s wild right now, and will run off and get lost in dark and pitiful places. Don’t shrink from the full range of human endeavor. Try it all, but remember; Trying is lying. If it’s really right, you don’t have to try. Let two words govern your life: - Doit! Do it all. Taste, feel, see, be, go. Don’t stop ’til you get there. Never mind, you'll know where there is when you arrive. Just don’t be surprised if you find out there is here. Listen to your own private song and linger where the music is sweetest. Leave when it fades and change it when it becomes monotonous. It really is there, I promise. So go ahead. God, I almost wish I could go with you. Don M. Fisher, Publisher 148 Advertisements Clarksville Florist Maegan Clark and Johnna Whittle 900 W.
