We’re No. 1!!! 119 A WINNING TEAM The 1983 Girls’ Varsity Track Team posted perhaps their most impressive season record thus far. A first place trophy was brought home from the Mt. Vernon Track Meet, second from the Cooper and North Lamar Meets, and third place trophies from Bonham, Mt. Pleasant and Pittsburg. In the District Track Meet, the girls scored 144 points, second to Pittsburg’s 147 points. Third place North Lamar scored 76, followed by Another Clarksville trackster in the lead. Greta’s record setting toss. Winnsboro with 75, Prairieland with 59 and Mt. Vernon with 55. Greta Dillard set a new district record in the shot with a toss of 4T7 . She also placed second in the discus with a 103'10 throw. The long jump was won by Clarksville’s Stephanie Williams. Her jump was 15'5 . First place positions were also earned by the 400 relay team of Stephanie Williams, Kim Duren, Candace Cellum, and Yolanda Dillard, the record setting (4:08) 1600 relay team of Stephanie Williams, Alice Taylor, Kim Duren, and Lanetta Williams, the 800 relay team of Candace Cellum, Lanetta Williams, Shanda Washington, and Yolanda Dillard, and Stephanie Williams’ 59.54 record 400 dash. Yolanda Dillard and Shanda Washington brought home second place positions in the 100 and 200 dash respectively. At the Whitehouse Regional Qualifiers Meet, Clarksville placed first out of 50 teams entered. Greta Dillard came in second with a shot toss of 41 '8 . The Regional Meet showed the team as third place out of 60 teams entered. The two teams who outscored Clarksville by a slim margin, Waco and Gilmer, went on to place first and second in the state meet.
