It will be a long time before the familiar classrooms and corridors are pushed into the remote recesses of our minds, for we shall always remember C. H. S.; but may this book serve to refresh our memories of new friends we have made, new ideas we have master- ed, and higher inspirations we have received. Thus, with a feeling of confidence that our high school education has prepared us for harder tasks that lie ahead, we present the 1956 TIGER CLAW. Under the capable leadership of our president, Nathan Crawford, our class saw the establishment of a new tradition. Betty Sue Reed and her attendants reigned over the first Homecoming at Clarksville High. The Tiger football team had a very successful season this year. The captains were Gene Whitsell and Mike Vickers. The Tiger basketball team also had a very good season, and they chose for their captain H. G. Turner. As the year progressed, we received our rings and jackets, ordered our invitations, and realized that at last we were really seniors. Mary Payne and Gaylon Norwood were elected best citizens by the class, and Betty Sue Reed and Mike Vickers were the class favorites. The student body elected Lynn Cole, Mr. C. H. S. We shall long remember with gratitude the Reception given in our honor by the juniors. Another happy memory is the fun we had on Senior Day. But now the time has come for us to bid farewell to our beloved C. H. S., and take our places in the adult world. Perhaps this fact will be more fully realized when we walk down the aisle to the final strains of Pomp and Circumstance , diploma in hand, with a new future shining brightly in the distance. Senior - JIM FREEMAN - Back Senior CHARLES HARDEGREE - Tackle Senior 7 stCe Pine Tree vs. Clarksville September 16 - The Clarksville Tigers opened their grid season by defeating the Pine Tree Pirates 20-6. On offense Nathan Crawford and Glen Smith were outstanding while the line play was lead by Pollock, Vickers, Morrison, and Hardegree. Clarksville vs. Idabel The following week the rapidly improv- ing Tigers butchered the Idabel Warriors on a rain-soaked field 37-8. Jim Freeman lead the scoring with two touchdowns. Jim receiv- ed an ankle injury in the last quarter. Clarksville vs. Gladewater September 30 - The Tigers lost to Gladewater 35-0. Because of the flood none of the fans were able to attend. Doug Schuler suffered a shoulder injury. Clarksville vs. Linden The following Friday the Tigers suffered a heart-breaking 15-7 defeat by Linden in the first conference game of the season. The score was 7-7 at halftime, but Linden added a touchdown and a safety in the second half to insure victory. Clarksville vs. DeKalb October 14 - The injury of Thurba Higgins early in the first quarter rattled the Tigers while the DeKalb Bears rolled on to three fast touchdowns and victory. Both the Tiger team and fans missed starters Jim Freeman and John Nichols who are out for the season due to injuries. Clarksville vs. Jefferson October 21 - The Tigers came back to avenge the two previous defeats with a 25-0 victory over Jefferson. The Tigers were on top all the way. Our line led by Vickers and Hardegree was like a brick wall. Doug Martin ran 80 yards on an intercepted pass. Whitsell, Bowden, and Schuler also scored. Clarksville vs. New Boston October 28 - The Tigers, still hot from their last week's victory, roared past New Boston 19-13. Higgins was outstanding with his slick ball-handling. Clarksville vs. Hooks November 4 - Gene Whitsell. with the help of great line play, led the Tigers to their third district win over Hooks 19-0. Schuler also scored. Hooks made less than 40 yards all night. Clarksville vs. Daingerfield November 11 - The fumbling Tigers were suppressed by Daingerfield 28-6 the next Friday Night. The sharp Daingerfield team was too much for us. Clarksville vs. Atlanta November 18 - This was our last game, and the Tigers were in high spirits, especially the 14 seniors who were playing the last game. The score was 12-6 at the half with the Tigers leading. Atlanta went wild in the second half and made the score 30-26. In the waning seconds of the game Schuler scored to win the game for the Tigers 32-30.
