The students of Clarksville High School and the Tiger fans extend their appreciation to the Quarterback Club for the beautiful new scoreboard erected at New Century Club Field. This was a definite advantage to fans and added interest and color to the games. CO-CAPTAINS MANAGERS Two of the outstanding boys on our 1954 football team were our captains. Buck Cagle and Bill Rowton. These boys contributed much to the spirit and the success of the team. Our managers, Lynn Cole and Nathan Crawford, gave a lot of time and effort to the football team. The entire student body appreciates these boys. COACHES Coaches Kittrell and Hancock have won the respect and admiration of the entire school through their tireless efforts to make a good football team. Though the score was not always in our favor, the coaches never lost their spirit. Vernon team beat our Tigers by a score of 27-7. The highpoint of the game for Clarksville came when Rowton made a 65-yard run, being tackled on tne 15. John Nichols passed to Gene Whitsell for our only score, and Nichols sneaked over for the point. CLARKSVILLE-PINE TREE September 17 - The Tigers won this game by a score of 24-0. Top scorers for Clarks- ville were Claude Davison and Billy Rowton. Tommy Taylor was outstanding on defense. CLARKSVILLE-IDABEL September 24 - This game was a 0-0 deadlock until the last four minutes when Bill Rowton broke loose on a 75-yard punt return for a score. In the last 15 seconds of the game the Tigers scored again on Rowton's 25-yard run. The game ended 13-0 in favor of Clarksville. CLARKSVILLE -CARTHAGE October 1 - The Carthage Bulldogs came to Clarksville unbeaten, untied, and un- scored on. Buck Cagle led the Tigers to a 6-6 deadlock. The Tigers outplayed the opponent on a muddy field. Although the deadlock was never broken the Tigers won on penetrations. UNDEN-CLARKSVILLE October 8 - The Tigers went to Linden for the first conference game of the season. A much underrated Linden team surprised the Tigers and took the game 32-0. DEKALB-CLA RKSV1LLE October 15 - This all-important game ended in disappointment for all Tiger Fans. Although the boys were playing fine ball, they got some bad breaks. Rowton made two nice runs for touchdowns, but the game ended 14-12 in favor of Dekalb. CLARKSVILLE-NEW BOSTON October 24 - This was a very exciting and pleasing game for the Tiger fans and team. Gene Whitsell and Charles Harde- gree played outstanding ball for the Tigers. This was the first conference win for the Tigers with a score of 38-6. CLARKSVILLE-HOOKS November 5 - This was the second con- ference win for the Tigers. After a clean, hard-fought ballgame the Tigers came out on top 19-0. Gene Whitsell and Buck Cagle were outstanding on defense. DAINGERFIELD-CLARKSVILLE November 12 - This was a game the Tigers wanted to win especially. The first half saw the Tigers score 19 points to the visitor's none. Tommy Taylor intercepted a pass and ran 66 yards for a Touchdown. The last half was a sad one as the determined Daingerfield team scored 20 points to our none. The game ended 20-19 in favor of Daingerfield. ATLANTA -CLARKSVILLE November 19 - The Tigers traveled to Atlanta for the final game of the season. The game was much closer and more exciting than the 32-13 score sounded. This was the last game for many of the Tiger players. This group presents three formal programs a year, the Thanksgiving Program, the Christmas Program, and the Spring Recital. Being the only formal Christmas Program given, it has be- come a tradition, with people from all over the county attending. They have engagements with service clubs and furnish programs for other organizations throughout the county. Each year the churches of town dismiss for the annual sacred program held in one of the sanctuaries. Following the Spring Recital, Miss Ruth plans to take this group on a one-day tour, which is a happy climax to a year's work. HIGH SCHOOL BAND The Clarksville High School Band, under the direction of W. W. Hays, has an en- viable record of achievement since its organization nine years ago. During those years, it has not only served our schools at football games, pep rallies, and concerts, but has acted in the capacity of a municipal band for the city of Clarksville in many civic affairs. Our band has won its share of First Division ratings at Inter-schola Stic League con- tests. It has become famous for unique field shows at football games, here and out of town. The annual Band show and final concert are surpassed by none. Musically, the Band rates high. Few bands in this area have had more students accepted for scholarships from colleges than the Clarksville Band.
