T hey were found in large n umb e r s on o u r championship football te am. 'I' h e y contributed a great deal to our first division winner band. They were muchin evidence wheneverour outstanding choral club appeared in recital. They also had tirne to make g ood grades in their school work. DON EMERY - BACK Don has played in the backfield four years and has lettered three of those four. He was Co-Captain of the '48 Team and made the all district team for the same year. He was a mid-term graduate this year. DON HUMPHRY - BACK Don lettered for the first time this year. He has been playing since hi s sophomore year. He shows great promise of becoming a good ball-handler. Don was elected Co-Captain for '49, RAY DENNEY - GUARD Ray lettered this ye a r for the first time and is a very promising lineman. He w a s elected Co-Captain for '49, Ray has been called the Romeo of the squad because of his popularity with the young ladies. SONNY WASHINGTON - BACK Sonny fDoakQ Washington lettered this year for the first time in the backfie ld. He is a very promising sophomore. KENNETH QBOZOQ HAYS - GUARD Bozo Hays, filling a guard position, lettered this year fo r the fir st time. He promises to show great ability in making way fo r the backfield during games to come. Although he was only a freshrnan, he had the ability to play with more experienced players. WILLIAM UPCHURCH - CENTER William was one ofour centers for this year. He is a one year letterman and graduated at mid-term. CURTISS EVETTS - GUARD Curtiss is another one of our hustling linemen. He is a junior and lette re d this year for the first time. He filled the guard position welland shows promise of becoming one of our best players. LLOYD STEWART - CENTER Lloyd has b e e n playing football for severalyears. He lettered this year for the first time as center. He is another of our mid-term graduates. VERNON NORRIS - END Vernon Norris, o the rwis e known a s Droopy , lette red this year as an end. Kelsey is a senior this year. JAMES STRICKLAND - TACKLE Buckshot Strickland lette red in '47 and '48 as a tackle. He was elected all district tackle for '48. He played his best in every game. R. G.
