The schools of Clarkston have had a long and varied history during which they have progressed from private institutions to our present school system. The first public school was located on the west shore of Park Lake. This building gradually became too small to meet the needs of the community 30 in 1911 a larger building was erected on the same site. This school had six classrooms and eight teachers. When this building proved to be no longer adequate the property was sold to Henry Ford and the present school property on East Church Street was acquired. The new building was erected and Mr. D. M. Winn served as superintendent. The first class to graduate from the new building was the class of 1931. The present school employs fifteen teachers and serves about six hundred students. Since 1944 Mr. Carl Brablec has served as superintendent and Mr. Wallace Ridgley as principal. Under their administration the school has increased its enrollment and added numerous courses.
