Baby Fae was the Hrst infant to receive a transplanted heart from an ani- mal. Baby Fae lived over 25 days, she drank formula, and listened to her Mother's voice. Ultimate- ly, Baby Fae succumbed to her failing and frail condition, but science learned a great deal from her courage. William Schroeder, 52, was the second man to have an artiHcial heart transplanted into his chest. A new addition to the Royal family in Britain, Prince Henry Charles Albert David was the second to be born in to Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Mick Jagger became a father at the age of 42, but refused to be- rome a husband. And an Atlanta rouple gave birth to the first twins to be conceived in vitro. There were many tragedies to be remembered as the year ended. There was the death of Martin Luther King Sr., the fa ther of the late Martin Luther King, Civil Rights leader. Andy Caughman, of Taxi and the famous soul singer-writer Marvin Gaye, also passed away. Another singer who died this year was Ethel Mer- rnan. Irvin Shaw and Truman Capote were two well known writers that passed away within the year also. Ansel Adams, 82, one of Americas best known photographers died during 1984. There were two actors that we will all remember for years to come. One brought us many laughs on the high comedy show, Cheers, Coach Nicholas Collas- ton. The other actor was Richard Burton, who was once married to the well known actress Elizabeth Taylor. From triumph to trage- dy, and to the new additions, we will remember many of these people for years to come.
