The Falcons sunk to a new low as William Andrews, Steve Bartkowski, and Billy White Shoes Johnson all went out with injuries. Tech beat North Carolina for the first time in 29 games as they upset the Tarheels in Carmichael Auditorium. With Tech playing such good basketball, Alexander Colisium became the Thriller- dome for all Tech fans and a menace for their ACC rivals. In the pro ranks, Dominque Wil- kins was named the KING OF THE SLAMDUNKQ and Bos- ton, Philadelphia, and the LA Lakers were the top teams. ULU LVLULH 984-85 Was one of the most exciting sports years ever! The top story was the 1984 Summer Olympic Games held in Los Angeles. Organized and run by Peter Uberoth, now baseball's commissioner, the Olympics were the most successful games ever! American athletes were vic- torious throughout the competi- tion. Mary Lou Retton became America 's sweetheart by leading the Women's gymnastics team 1 w L with five medals won, including a gold. Mitch Gaylord was the force behind the men 's team by winning three medals, including a gold. Steve Lundquist, from Jonesboro, Georgia, made the American swim team winners by claiming four of the team 's 15 medals. The low point of the Olympics Was when Zola Budd of Great Britain, tripped up with Mary Decker going in to the final lap of their race. That incident rn ruined Mary's chances of win- ning the gold medal that every- one thought she would take. The Detroit Tigers Won their first World Series since 1968 when they beat the San Diego Padres, 4 games to 1. Pete Rose returned to Cinncinati after being gone for four years. He was named player! manager and revived the Reds during the last month of the sea- son. He needs only 94 hits to break Ty C'obb's all time hit re-

ight! Camera! Action! Those words characterize this year in entertainment. In the movie world, there was Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, in Beverly Hills Cop. His hu- mor was a big hit, and his mov- ie set box oflice records. Wed- ding bells were heard in The Muppets Take Manhatten, when Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy finally tied the knot. Not long afterwards, there were baby Kermits and Miss Piggies running around! One of the biggest movies of the year was Ghostbusters. The red circle with a slash across it became a symbol for many ideas throughout the rest of the year. Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray really made a name for themselves in Ghost- busters. Some of the movies that we will remember were Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins, Protocol, Top Secret, Witness, Vision Quest, The Killing Fields, A Soldier's Story, and Heaven Help Us. The Slugger's Wife DHT I. JI JI ll. JA was filmed in Atlanta during the summer, and premiered here in the spring of 1985. On the live stage, Michael Jackson was a hit with his Vicq tory Tour. It was such a suc- cess that the concert had to be moved to the Atlanta Stadium so that more people could at- tend. Even though Jackson was a hit there were two other stars slowly pushing him out of the spotlight. They were Prince and the Revolution, and Bruce Springsteen.
