There’s so much we’ve forgotten, Yet too much to recall, From memories of the times we had. As we gaze into the future To the years that our experience will influence, Yet it will still bring back fond memories Of those years we thought were not that bad. And then it is intuitively obvious that Those were the best years SENIORS n 35sjIf ? And Things LIVING The Rif Moore House SPECIAL EVENTS The Flying Karamazov Brothers FACULTY REMARKS TO THE CLASS OF 1986 Four years ago you left family, friends, and the easier successes of high school for college. You unpacked in a strange room, took your first meals in a din of new voices, scanned your textbooks, fresh and forbidding. From that starting point, matriculation, to this finishing point, graduation, you have traversed a learning curve, accumulating knowledge and skills. When you came, differential equa- tions, organic chemistry, VLSI design, macroeconomics, and thermodynamics were all mysteries to you; now only thermodynamics remains. By every measure, instilling facts is a thing Clarkson does well. You know your stuff. You are ready to apply it to the real world in exchange for ready cash. We're impressed with the ways you've grown and changed. Clarkson has changed along with you: new buildings, new programs, new president. You came to Clarkson College of Technology filled with expectations and covered with acne. Now filled with knowledge and covered with debt, you are leaving Clarkson University. When you came, many freshmen could drink; now popular place on campus. You and the university will continue to change, but no longer together. Your time is over now. Within this hour we will exercise the only real power a university has - the authority to grant degrees - and turn you from candidates to graduates. Clarkson will be a memory. As you pack the souvenirs of four years, once again your room will look strange. The din of voices saying goodbye will echo as you depart for greater opportunities. You may find warmer climates -1 imagine you will - but not warmer hearts, in years to come you will return to a Clarkson changed, but always yours. Till then we wish you well, You should know we are proud of you and we'll be waiting to hear Every breath you take. Every claim you stake. We'll be watching you.
