Increases in freshmen enrollment and the successive housing shortage on campus helped to explain the large number of people living off campus. Almost 30070 of the undergraduate population found housing in the off campus apartments, fraternities, so- rorities or in private houses. Many found new experiences in cooking, decorating and socializing. wwzk a $ 5 v: : V3; j $9 J. Frank Speiser gave an excellent portrail of Bruce, a comedian, and social and political critic of the early 19603. Bruce,s exposure of a hypocritical society through sexual, racial and political humor caused him to be judged edangerous and eventu- ally outcast by his peers. Violinist Francis Fortier erfest ; Wag? We had one goal in mind . . . to produce a play and by God we did it! aaGuys and Dolls was chosen for its mass appeal. An ever popular musical comedy, it tells of Broad- way gamblers, their girls and the problems love brings to the sinful way of life. With no dramatic experts to guide us, we relied upon ourselves: Iohn Grasso, director; Randy Lamson and John Bobrowich, pro- ducers; Harriet Haynes, technical director; Eric Sternberg, musical director; Eileen Romano, choreographeer; and Keith Vinch- koski, stage manager. Did we have enough interest, enough talent? The response was overwhelming. We found a core of actors, crews, dancers and musicians right here at Clarkson. Ralph Ambrosio as Nathan Detroit; Judi Zatkalik as Adelaide; Ioe Campbell as Sky Masterson; Cindy Dowd as Sergeant Sarah Brown. Eight weeks of long hard work, but success was ours a drama had come to Clarkson. zWW $ Blood Drive Mike Clark, the Chairman of the Thir- teenth Annual Clarkson Ranger Blood Drive, announced at the Close of the drive that 924 pints of blood were donated dur- ing the three-day clinic at Lewis House. This yearts goal, according to Ed Bolton, Commander of the Clarkson Rangers, was 900 pints of blood. He was pleased at the response, particularly from the Clarkson and Potsdam State campuses. Bolton praised the donors and the participation of the volunteers and added: ttThe Rang- ers are proud of this accomplishment. It represents hours of volunteer work, but it could not have been a success without the overwhelming participation of the donors. Mrs. Doris Tyler, the Clinic Day Chair- man, said that the Ranger Blood Drive is annually one of the largest held in the area served by the Syracuse Regional Blood Center. In the thirteen years the Rangers have sponsored the Drive, a total of 9848 pints of whole blood have been donated. lneering Day u a T m e B y b d e r 0 S n 0 p S Eng Dedication of the Clarkson Arena The Clarkson Arena, the scene of the hockey action in Potsdam 0f the past 37 years, was dedicated in honor of G. Murray Walker, the Nfather 0f Clarkson hockeyt'. In addition to being known as the ttfather of Clarkson hockey, Mr. Walker was also the co-founder of the annual Ice Carnival in 1930. Although Clarkson had played a few games before 1921, it was in that year that Mr. Walker moved to Potsdam and teamed with Gordon Croskery to or- ganize the Clarkson hockey team. He scheduled the games each year until hockey became a part of the athletic program in 1935. Mr. Walker also served as head of the Clarkson Hockey Associa- tion. The arena was completed in 1938 and artificial ice was installed in 1952. In 1971 the building was renovated and much to the joy of the Clarkson hockey fans, additional seats and a heating system was installed. Game i n m In A M AT LAST! Dave Clark, winner 0f the Pinky Ryan award, with Athletic Director William Fiesinger. e S S O r C a L Cross Country The record of three and three was a dis- appointment to the cross-country team, who had hoped for a near-perfect record. The main problem of the team was a lack of depth. Don Sipher, Andy Watkins, Jim Holland and Mark Paprocki provided a good 1,2,3 punch between them, but the team lost the Close races due to not having the 4th and 5th runners high enough in the standings. The cross-Country team looks forward to the fall 0f 76 with anticipation. Sophomore Rich Rougeux with Freshmen Ieff Harrison and James Sluti, having a year of experience under their belts, should be help in providing Clark- son with a solid first five that could yield a total Change from the ,75 season. Wrestling Coach Mike Cornachia RJ and assistant coach Dick Giromini wJ with co-captains Ralph Indorf and Ieff Hanlon. Soccer The Golden Knights of the soccer field started out the 75 season with a spec- tacular surge, winning four out of their first five games. The team then had a com- plete turnabout and was only able to win two out of the last eight. The teams top point-getter was Gary Lawton with eleven, who, along with Tom Buono and Ike Okonkwo, was elected to the All-ICAC squad. Rookies 0f the year were Kirk Iunco, Bruce Knapp and Iimmy Fahy. The coach,s Choices were Ken Avery and lay Martinez, while the Most Im- proved Player was Mike Dwaileebee. The soccer team looks forward to next year as most of the team will be returning. He just scored! L??? I L L ' Wm L Nw- Baseball Overall, the Clarkson Baseball team had a good Spring and Fall combination, winning a total of 18, while losing only 10. The efforts of Coach Phillips and the experience of the members were big factors in the teamts success. Defensive standouts were, left fielder Frank Termine and shortstop Iim Barhite, each having their finest year. Offen- sively, the Knights had an awesome attack. In Spring ,75, the team batting average was .375, while in the Fall it was around .310. Here again, Barhite and Termine were consistent hitters, with the high- est average going to catcher-designated hitter Kevin Kepner L4701. The pitching staff tCunning- ham, Meno, Lyttle, and Staceyt did a fine job on the mound. The team loses at least 10 playing seniors, but the upcoming underclassmen 100k impressive. 1m b t e k S a B :8 n e m m $93 K3011 muting, Captain Charlie Hicks with coach Brian Chafin. The 1975-76 hockey season for the Golden Knights showed early promise when the team won the Syracuse and ECAC Invitational Tournaments. These two early season victo- ries helped to catapult the team through an exciting year of surprising upsets and crucial defeats. The teams strength was based on four strong returning lettermen on defense; Terry Conroy, Bob Shaw, Murry Wright and Bill Blackwood. This tough blueline squad con- stantly fought off the opposition and also ac- counted for their share of goals throughout the season. In the nets for Clarkson were goalies George Galbraith and Brian Shields, a standout in the ECAC tournament. Offensively, the team was directed by hard working Dave Taylor, who is gradually work- ing his way to becoming Clarkson's all-time scoring leader. First year men Iay Westcott, Craig Loupelle, Kevin Zappia, Mark Mac- Dougall and Charlie Sharlow played well in their first year of Division I hockey and should be players to watch during the next few winters. Other returning forwards were led by Marty McNally, Glenn Thomaris, Chris Valentine and Jeff Hewitt. Although the team placed well this year, inconsistency through inexperience hamper- ed the playoff efforts. The team will be losing only one senior, goalie George Galbraith, through graduation, so the returning letter- men should provide an exciting season for Clarkson next year. x Lxxsvvvw 4 K L . 1C; $.de s V 213.56 x. ,. , .V y a ' . y y ,,,fa,neaihd3,122.4??? Some of the more recent activities include a variety of folk music on weekends in the Coffee House, a CUB event phone, Wednesday night movies on the hill campus, and a wide selection of mini-courses. Some of the major concerts involved the Flying Burrito Brothers, Aztec Two Step, Renaissance, and Dave Mason. The cultural committee brought in violinist Francis Fortier, Frank Speiserts ttWorld 0f Lenny Bruce , and co-sponsored a Clarkson play, Guys and Dolls. Social and Travel com- mittees planned mini-concerts, parties, mixers, and trips to Montreal, Ottawa and Mount Trem- blant. The annual Spring Thing was sponsored by the freshman and sophomore classes; the junior class sponsored junior weekend; and the year was brought to a close by Senior Week. , N mwmwmvme .- wwmwmw Business Board: Iim Callabiano, Bill Leonard, Mark Weiss. To kee the college community informe , community announcements, news weather, and sports are aired through- out the day. WNTC staff members have been busy this school year ree modeling the entire station. The phase of operations began during summer 1975 when Clarkson put a new roof on the Chemistry Annex, creating new upstairs for WNTC access, resulting in a total revamping 0f the buildings in- terior. Another revision this year was a change to stereo broadcasting. WNTC encourages anyone who is in- terested in any phase of radio to stop in anytime for information. ICRN is an organization dedicated to all facets of radio broadcasting. Our two radio stations bring the students of SUCP and CCT the best in music, news, and educational programming in AM and beau- tiful FM stereo, and the oppor- tunity for any interested stu- dents to work in radio. ICRN is the only student organization which operates on both cam- puses school-year-round and is funded by both SGA and CCSA senates. The Inter College Radio Network The Clarkson College Student Association is the representative group comprising all the students at Clarkson who join it. The Senate is the governing body elected by the students in the spring of each year. The 26 members of the Senate are possible some of the busiest people at Clarkson and are al- ways ready to receive help from fellow stu- dents. Each year the Senate enacts new pro- grams designed to enhance life at Clarkson. The formation of activities and service organizations is a major part of the CCSA. In addition, the CCSA provides services to the students such as bus use and activities. y r a r 0 n 0 H D I Editors Co-editors-in-Chief Karl Bratin Tom Scruggs Business Ed Pietka Art Kevin Pipp Photo Charlie McGuire Copy Jackie Clinton Sports Cliff Lee Tom Scruggs, Karl Bratin Iackie Clinton Staff Layout: R.
