'iCan you hold her that well in the last half?' asked the coach after they had gone to the dressing room. I think I can, panted Joan. Joan was almost sure that she had made an important discoverx. Ann's knee bent irrxitinglx' toward her and in ord r to avoid hitting it, Joan had to make a quick shift to Anns left. This confused Ann and prevented her from making a basket. Joan decided to try the trick in the last half to see if it always worked. Soon after the plax started Penbrook took the lead, then Snrith passed them Pen- b ooi' came back quickly. Joan stuck to Ann Marshall. Joan found that her guess was correct. Shot after -hot went wild. Once Ann muttered an insulting remark to Joan. but Joan merely smiled and skillfully took the ball out of her hands. When the final whistle blew Pen- brook led by six points. Joan's heart beat until it hurt. She had stopped Ann Marshall. She had s:rx'ed the game and had been square all the way through. -MARJORIE A. Strange to say she had traveled throughout the world and nowhere could she find the desired efiect. And in the meantime the little brook flowed merrily on its way mur- muring fantastic tales to those with open ears. The birches and beeches bore lasting souvenirs uhtre shining blades of jack knives had left their impressions a place of rend-z-vous often to be rexisited. The yellovs and orange touch-me-nots nodded in com- munion with the lavender burdocks and the daisies scattered here and there in the -unshine had a wealth of material to impart. Jacqueline remained with pencil poised searching for an appropriate setting for her story with her eyes and ears closed to the pleadings of Motlrer Nature. Jacqueline as Sir Launfal in his search for the Holy Grail wa' soon to discover that often in groping for bigger things we overlook the minor ones that 'ire ours for the asking. -MARION C.
