Without their loyalty, trust, devotion, and inspiration, these twelve years could never have been such happy ones. Through this humble dedication, we thank our parents, who are also our best friends, for these years of their giving for us. May we, with God's help, succeed in our goals in life to make them as proud of us as we are proud of them: and may their days be many and joyous, and their troubles only tiny ones. I-RHTIUH :HW .... ff- ,. WqWQ TRUSTEE Mr. Bails, the administrative director of our school since 1951, has contributed his time and service to aid the faculty, community, and students in their desire to advance the American cause. Sponsored by MILLER'S GROCERY CLA HI TORY You may not find the events your author is about to tell in the pages of American history, but I defy anyone to say they are not as worthy of mention as any of the ,deeds of the heroes of long ago. Would you have me prove my words? Then lend your ears and give me your full attention. CHAPTER I - In September of 1943 twenty struggling pioneers set forth on their journey into the perils of education. Our leader was Mrs. Edna Pedigo. At the end of our ,journey through the first grade there were only eighteen left. Some new ones were gained and some lost. Those we lost after about two weeks of school were Floyd MaKenzie, Jr. , Barbara Peffley, and Junior Williams. We were now in the strange land called grade school. A CHAPTER H - The second year of struggles along the trail was shared by nineteen pioneers. Again our leader was Mrs. Pedigo. At the end of the year we had lost some pioneers and gained-some. Those lost were Aaron Cornett. Gerald Hampton, and Jerry Harvey. CHAPTER III - The third year we found our struggles were just beginning. There were thirteen in our little band and Miss Alice Casey was our leader. Those we lost were Rosalyn Patterson, Mary Jane Cordy, Rex Huddleston, Robert Wilcox, Barbara Ann Mayo, Joan Myer and Richard Smith. , CHAPTER. IV - We made our way through the fourth year of travel with much success. Miss Casey was still our teacher. We lost John Corwin. , CHAPTER V - We found studies getting harder as we approached the land of Junior High. Our leader was Miss Mary Baer. We lost Elmer Roberts. CHAPTER VI - We were now only one year away from Junior High land. Our leader was still Miss Baer. We lost Ann Bowling and John Perry. . CHAPTER VII - At last we found ourselves in Junior High land. We thought we were the most important class upstairs. We lost Shirley Foster, Wayne Wethington, and Dale Byers. CHAPTER VIII - One more year and we would be in the land of High School. They told us that the eighth grade would be the hardest and we believed it, too. We lost Roberta Morin, Max Pittenger, Stanley Rhine, and Elaine Wright. CHAPTER IX - Our first year in High School! We thought we were pretty important. This was the first year we got to choose class officers. They were: President, Larry Summers: Vice-President, Richie Van Allen, and Secretary-Treasurer, Letty Fischer. Our sponsor was Mrs. Bryant. We lost Ross Hawkins. CHAPTER X - Well, this was a very important year. We got our class sweaters - cardinal and white. Our class officers were: President, Anita Platt, Vice-President, Larry Blacker, and Secretary-Treasurer, Alice High. Our sponsor was Mrs.' Hoerger. We lost Letty Fischer, Stanley Rhine, and Joe Guinn. CHAPTER Xl - One more year and we will reach our destination, the twelfth grade. Some of the class members got class rings. Our class officers were: President, Larry Summers: Vice-President, Larry Blacker, and Secretary-Treasurer, Alice High. We also had a junior play called GIRL SHY. Mrs. Peterson directed. lt was considered a success. QCONTINUED NEXT PAGE! This page is sponsored by ROBERT SEARS, Stockwell, Indiana CLA SS HISTORY C0nt. CHAPTER XII - Well, we are about to the end of our journey through the Land of Education. Our class officers are: President, Larry Summers: Vice-President, Richie Van Allen. and Secretary-Treasurer, Alice High. Our sponsor is Mr. Packard. Some of the seniors got class pins this year. The basketball team started off the new year right by winning the county tourney. We knew you could do it, boys. We had a junior-senior play called NEARLY BELOVED, directed by Mrs. Metzger. We also worked on the annual and school paper. We lost Gene McCullough and Ross Hawkins. The class now has twelve members. They are: Larry Blacker, Phylis Bridwell, Gordon Dahnke, Alice High, Larry Hoffman, Judy Morris. Louise Nydegger,1 f Anita Platt, Larry Summers, Dave Sutton, Richie Van Allen, and Keith Wilcox. PROPHECY , i Well, here it is ten years later and I'm trying to write a story about the most successful class of Clarks Hill, namely the class of '55, I didn't have much trouble finding the members since all of them have done so well for themselves. LARRY BLACKER went directly into the tomato raising business after leaving school. Now he has a complete set up including processing. I couldn't remember the name of a certain husky, curly-headed fellow, but when I gave his descriptions everyone knew I was talking about KEITH WILCOX. Keith had gone into farming for himself and had done very well. He had a Cadillac for everyone of his family and an Olds parked out in front for anyone whose car was blocked in the driveway. , ALICE HIGH is really going places. She has an excellent job in the NEW YORK TIMES office. She, is also a stand-in for the leading role in the opera CARMEN. The name of HOFFMAN is well circulated too. Larry had gone to college and had graduated as an expert in history. Now he is managing a NEW YORK museum. PHYLIS BRIDWELL has just returned from Europe where she has been studying music. This fall she will play her clarinet in the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Everyone remembered RICH VAN ALLEN. He went into the feed business and developed a new feed called Allen Mix. JUDY MORRIS is the head operator in a Bell Telephone office in Miami, Florida. She and her husband have a large house near the beach where they give many parties. DAVE SUTTON went to college and is now a successful businessman. He is the owner of a safe manufacturf ing company, Sutton's Safe Safes. f ' LARRY SUMMERS has had a dozen different jobs, but now he is an agriculture tycoon with more money than old John D. himself. ' g , ANITA PLATT is a professor of physical education at Spright College in Illinois. She also coaches the yell leaders there. p LOUISE NY DEGGER is in Hollywood working as a wardrobe specialist for M-G-M. Very soon she will be coming home to be married. A Last but not least I found that studious redhead, GORDON DAHNKE. Gordon had gone into the contracting A business and is now constructing buildings that put the Empire State Building to shame. Well, I was happy to see everyone doing so well. This class had always set a good example for all the under-graduates. Now they have gone out and made good use of their fine talents and ways.
