As we progress further into our senior year, we wonder what lies ahead of us. We also wonder what lies behind us. Looking to the future, we wonder if we will be able to succeed at what we want in life. If a person wants something bad enough in life, then they are going to fight and strug- gle for it until they reach it. Taking a look at what lies behind us, we realize that these are memories we will not forget. They will be memories we will al- ways treasure. We will never forget how long we have known each other, and all of the times we have spent together. Also, we will never forget kindergarten graduation, eighth-grade promotion, homecomings, our junior and senior proms, and especially how we felt the day of graduation. These will be moments we will always treasure. We will also remember a true friend and classmate, Pat Engel. Pat was a valuable asset to our class, and she was always there to support us. Pat will be remembered be- cause she was loved. As we look to the future again, we begin to realize that these are memories we will nev- er forget. These are memories in our hearts we will always treasure. If we always have a dream in our heart, we will be able to succeed at what we want in life. Not all dreams and memories can be captured in pictures, but the dreams and memories we will remember will be cap- tured in our hearts and treasured forever. But what a relief it was when we could finally say our theme was, A Dream Goes On Forever . One money making project was a concessions stand at Bean Day, which was a great success. Well, being a sophomore isn't all that bad. From September 24, to September 28, 1984, Clarks High School went crazy. It was Homecoming week and the theme was Let's Go Crazy. The week was kicked off with Hippy- Scurfy Day which made everyone think that the school had stepped back into the sixties. Tuesday was Nerd Day and there were some really great looking nerds. On Wednesday we really didn't know whether we were coming or going because it was Backwards Day. Punk Rock Day had some pretty unusual people walking down the halls of Clarks High. The week was round- ed off with Dress-up Day on Friday. The week long winners for their costume par- ticipation throughout the week were Pat Goff and Chris Neel. The hall decoration Contest was a tough battle between the high school classes. There was everything from Muppets to Ghostbusters. The freshman won it with their Mad Magazine theme. A pep rally was held on Friday afternoon to get everyone excited about the night's game between Clarks and Brownell-Talbot. It proved to be a really thrilling game with Clarks coming out on top, 28-26, after an exciting overtime period was played. Elected King and Queen for the evening were Kerry Voigt and Kim Helgoth. First Attendants were Chris Zegar and Chris Neel. Second Attendants were Steve Ziemba and Sheryl Strobel. The Homecoming Dance was held immedi- ately after the game. Everyone had a great time dancing the night away with music provided by a D.J. from Complete Music. Top: Queen Candidates, Kim, Sheryl, and Chris await- ing the final announcement. Back - Mrs. Brazda. Class of 85, Parents, Faculty, and Friends. Here we are at the highest point in our high school years, graduation! Twelve of us have made it all the way from being kindergartners to being seniors here at Clarks Public School. It makes me wonder how we've made it this far. We started out in kindergarten curious little kids with our rugs under our arms and mischief in our eyes. I know we wouldn't have made it, that first year without guidance from Mrs. Brazda. Mrs. Brazda was there whenever we needed her. When everyone was little, there was a time when your baby teeth came out at the most inopportune times. For example, while you were eating a lollipop that was only supposed to take three licks to get to the center in the first place. Well, if you lost a tooth and couldn't find it, Mrs. Brazda would just write a note to the tooth fairy explaining the whole thing. Our elementary years were full of surprises. Four teachers in a row quit teaching after finishing a year of teaching our class. Our first, second, third, and fourth grade teachers left. Now I can't imagine their reasons for leaving but could it be that our class was the best class that they'd ever taught and wanted to quit on a good note. I don't really know. We made it through elementary as all of the classes before us had done and we got to move into the high school building. We will always remember this building as it was, creaking stairs, plaster falling, and of course the temperature extremes. But I'm sure that every senior feels it to be an honor to be the last class to graduate from this good ole high school building. Jr. High is a big adjustment for anyone and we were no exception. Having many different teachers was the biggest change. Soon came eighth grade graduation and movement into the ninth grade. With high school came sports, organizations, activities, and everyones favorite class, speech. I am sure that ail of you who have taken speech, will never forget it. I can remember some of the topics we did speeches on: horses, overhauling a motor, and that dreaded gum disease. I bet that no one ever told you that speech could be hazardous to your health, and meant it. Just try to get by with sleeping behind the bookcase during class. Right Roger? Our class had made it through the school years with flying colors and now is the time of reckoning. We've had our rough times but have enjoyed many great times. I guess if I had to say something to each of you, it would be to be yourselves. You are each a unique person and you can do anything you put your mind to. Say what you think and stand up for what you believe in. Then you will truly like yourself and no one will be able to stop you from reaching your dreams. Give yourself a pat on the back because you are special and deserve all the best in the world. I would sum up graduation with a poem by Carmen Joy Schrock. There are no endings without new beginnings, no goodbyes without hellos, so, it's hard to part and go our separate ways. What lies beyond the pain of parting is simply the joy of reunion, and so I hope for days when we will touch again, not only through thoughts but in reality. Congratulations and good luck to all of you! Christine Neel - Valedictorian 78 (left-top to bottom) Lincoln Williams, Kim Urkoski, Kathy Fleeman, and Brian Herman were marshals. We experienced new and exciting things and shared our thoughts and feelings with those around us. We also shared the memorable ex- perience of the ground breaking ceremonies for the new school to be built for the fall of 1985. The school will be a reminder to those of us who will have graduated in May of 1985 of the things to come. We will be able to share with those who never had the chance to be in the old building, and yet, although we will not have had the chance to be in the new building we will still be able to see what we will have missed. Those of us in the old building will still have the memories of the past years but we will learn of the new ones to come. Let us keep on mak- ing 1985 a memorable year. Deb Miller - Editor
