On September, 1963, thirty-one eager little patriots started their long fight for freedom and independence. They were Mike Schlondorf, Jim Wilson, Rick Ferguson, Brad Kohl, Tim Bittinger, Mike Beck, Cecelia Beck, Julie Wurtz Van Pelt, Robin Dexter, Mike Herman, Barbara Beck, Casey Earl, Roberta Harris, Leanne McLean, Dave Huston, Ronnie Kula, Doug Colby, Craig Swedenburg, Tony Peterson, Paul Jaracke, Jane Hansher, Ken Adkisson, Bill Kohlhof, Anne Shonsey, Ann Kuhn, Rebecca Huebner, Sylvia McNeal, Peggy Vincent, Ruby Earl, Cindy Hays, and Gwen Johnson. Under the leadership of Mrs. Kivctt, we learned how to write our names and how to count. After learning these things and more, we felt we were ready to start our fight and on May, 1964, we left for the first year of our battle. Here we had a new leader, Mrs. Baird, and also gained a new recruit to help us along the way. He was Tom Burgess Dittmer. In the second year our leader was Mrs. Moore. We gained two new recruits, Christi Husmann and Ronnie Jones, but the long fight proved too hard for Brad Kohl and Ruby Earl who left us. This year the patriots learned to build bird- houses. In our third year our leader was Mrs. Zlomke. In this year we suffered two more losses, Casey Earl and Ken Adkisson. In our fourth year our numbers dwindled as we lost Tony Peterson and Ric Ferguson. Our leader for that year was Miss McCarty. Our leader for the fifth year was Miss Zoucha and again our numbers dwindled as we lost Barbara and Cecelia Beck. But we did gain one new recruit, Paulette Robak. Miss Test was our leader for our sixth year. We lost Ronnie Kula that year, but gained Glenda Nepermann Lanik. In the seventh year of our long struggle, Mr. Owston was our leader. We had three new recruits this year, Dave Church, Tom Engel, and Roger Yrkoski. We elected class officers for the first time. Our president was Glenda Neper- mann Lanik, vice-president was Paulette Robak, secretary-treasurer was Ronnie Jones, and our Student Council member was Paul Jarecke. Our leader suffered from battle fatigue and had to leave us. In the eighth year of our struggle our elected officers were president, Ron Jones; vice-president, Leanne McLean; secretary-treasurer, Craig Swedenburg; and our Student Council member was Paul Jarecke. Our leader was Mr. Barr. We won a major victory on May 22, 1972, by graduating from the eighth grade. We celebrated the day after by going to Lincoln. We visited the KOLN-KGIN TV station and were on the Morning Show. Also, we visited the telephone company, one of the banks there, and went shopping at Gateway. We gained two new recruits that year, Jerry Palu and Diana Church. We lost Glenda Nepermann Lanik. In our ninth year we had two leaders, Mrs. Ippensen and Mr. Krause. We lost Jerry Palu, Ronnie Jones, and Paulette Robak that year, but gained Brain Botts. We picked our class motto, “We can think about forever, but we really only live today.” Our class flower was a spring bouquet and our class colors were olive-green and gold. Our elected officers were president, Paul Jaracke; vice-president, Roberta Harris; secretary-treasurer, Dave Huston; and our Student Council members were Leanne McLean and Craig Swedenburg. We took a short leave during this year and went to visit the House of Yesterday and the planetarium at Hastings. In the tenth year our casualities were Roberta Harris, Rebecca Huebner, Diana Church, and Brain Botts. Our elected officers were president, Craig Swedenburg; vice-president, Mike Schlondorf; secretary-treasurer, Peg Vincent; and our Student Council members were Mike Herman and Julie Wurtz Van Pelt. Our leaders for that year were Mrs. Ippensen and Mr. Anderson. We ordered our class rings during our sophomore year. In the eleventh year of our struggle we knew that the end was near. Our elected officers were Peggy Vincent, presi- dnet; Tim Bittinger, vice-president; Paul Jaracke, secretary-treasurer; and the Student Council members were Ann Kuhn and Craig Swedenburg. Our leaders were Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Jarecke. We were sorry to lose Sylvia McNeal that year. We honored the seniors with a prom at Havens Ballroom. Our these was “Stairway to Heaven”. In the 12th and final year of our struggle for freedom, we gained Sandy Blowey, which made our number 25. Our elected officers were president, Craig Swedenburg; vice-president, Mike Schlondorf; secretary-treasurer, Jim Wilson; and the Student Council members were Leanne McLean and Tim Bittinger. Our leaders were Mr. Alt and Mrs. Banks. The Junior class honored us with a Junior-Senior prom at the school gym called “The Spirit of ’76”. We finally won our battle of independence and freedom on May 9, 1976, as we graduated from Clarks High School. 14
