Senior Class History The Class of 74 started their 13-year race in seven different starting gates. Allan Church and Mary Engel attended Riverside School, Bob Foulk at District 50, Richard Rieken and Duane Miller at Pleasant Hill, Clifford Yrkoski at Krakow, Laura Kingma at Lincoln Public in Mundelien, Illinois, Cindy Grause at District 20, and the rest of us at Clarks Public School. At Christmas we all dressed up like bears for our program. Mrs. Ulferts was our announcer and raced us on to the first grade. Mrs. Baird was our First grade announcer. The spanking machine was the big event. For each of our birthdays, we formed our machine and gave the birthday cnild their initiation to the ripe age of seven. As tne race continued, Mrs. Sloan took over as the announcer in Second grade. We showed our artistic ability by making lifesize puppets out of cardboard and paper plates. In the spring we formed a bird- watchers club to Droaden our knowledge of birds. Mrs. Zlomke entered the race in Third grade as our announcer. We learned how to square dance and had an Indian play, building our own teepees. Cindy Grause and Duane Miller entered the race, but Ellen Wem- hoff got bumped off around the turn. We raced on to the Fourth grade, where Mrs. Morgan took over as announcer. To highlight our study of transportation, we took a train trip from Columbus to Grand Island. We also held a carnival for the rest of the grade school; and showed what we had learned in History with a Nebraska show. As we picked up speed, we also picked up a new announcer, Miss Zoucha, who helped us present our Hobby Show. Rounding the turn. Miss Test took over the announcing job in Sixth grade. At this time many of our members were welcomed out to Riverside School for a track meet. As the race goes on, Mr. Owston comes in as the announcer, where four extra runners move onto the track - Richard Rieken, Allan Church, Mary Engel, and Laura Kingma. Moving on, we switched to Mr. Riley as announcer. After Eighth grade graduation, we took a trip to Lincoln. We toured several places of interest and got to be on Cartoon Corral. Now as things really picked up, three more runners, Bob Foulk, Ellen Wemhoff, and Cliff Yrkoski come onto the track. At the second turn, Mr. Cyboron and Mr. Nelson took over the heavy task of announcing. At this point of the race, Doe Dee Dittmer was 1st as President, Bob Foulk was 2nd as Vice-President, Denise Shonsey 3rd as Secretary-Treasurer, and Cindy Grause in 4th place as news reporter. We chose our class motto as Challenge Your Own Faults Then Take on Others. Our colors were gold and white and our flower was a white rose. The highlights of the year were Initiation where we crawled from Main Street to the park on our knees and kissed the upperclassmen's feet, and the Powder Puff football game between the freshmen- seniors and sophomores-juniors. The freshmen-seniors were ahead the whole game until the last two minutes. The girls got to take a Pep Club trip in the spring to Omaha. As we Bunched up, we now needed three announcers: Mr. Manstedt, Mr. Ippensen, and Miss Davis were the volunteers. Mary Engel was now in the lead as President, Kathy Miller in 2nd as Vice-President, Cindy Grause in 3rd place as Secretary-Treasurer, and Jeanne Pickrel in 4th place as News Reporter. The big event in our sophomore year was dissecting pigs in Biology. We were ready to receive our Medical Degree after that. Going into the 3rd turn, the bunch was spreading out again and only two announcers were on the scene, again Mr. Ippensen and Mr. Manstedt. Doe Dee was in tne lead as President, Jeanne Pickrel moving up into 2nd as Vice-President, Mary Engel, 3rd as Secretary-Treasurer, and Cindy Grause in 4th place as News Reporter. We received our class rings in the fall. We also put on our play They Run in Our Family, which turned out to be quite a success. The girls again showed their athletic ability in a game against the Fresh- man-Sophomore boys wearing boxing gloves, and the boys against the faculty. Our Prom The Sky's the Limit, If You Put Your Heart Into It, with Whale playing, also turned out to be a great success. The girls got another pep club trip to Omaha visiting the Henry Doorly Zoo, Weavers, Old Market, Westroads, and a snow. Making the last and final turn, and going into the home stretch, Richard Jarecke took over the last and final lead as President, Rusty Kuhn was in 2nd place as Vice-President, and Bob Foulk in 3rd place as Secretary-Treasurer. Leaving one announcer behind and picking up another to finish, Mr. Ippensen and Miss Kluever were waiting at the finish line! Many activities took place on the final stretch, starting out with ordering our announcements and Senior Keys. Homecoming came with the theme Touch Me in the Morning. Our royalty was Bob Foulk - King, Jeanne Pickrel - Queen, Ellen Wemhoff and Allan Church - 1st Attendants, ana Kathy Miller and Jeff Wurtz - 2nd Attendants. The Freshman-Senior girls again played the Sophomore-Junior girls in a powder puff football game. The game went scoreless until the last quarter when Raedene Rieken ran a fast touchdown for the Sophomore-Juniors. But the Seniors came back beating the faculty in basketball, both boys and girls. We took our Sneak trip in early April to enjoy the snow at Loveland Basin in colorful Colorado. We skiied and snow-mobiled all day and went to eat at El Rancho Steakhouse at night. Everyone collapsed that night on the bus after a long, busy day. The Juniors honored us with a Prom titled American Gratfitti. Our class play The Egg and I, on April 26 was the finish line. On May 12, 1974 at 7:30 we completed our race and made it across the finish line at Clarks High School. Twenty-one faces were filled with mixed emotions as they ended one race and started another, leaving many memories to share.

Senior Class Prophecy Faster than the speed of light, That Cindy knows how to really type. Her secretary job has gotten her far, You can surely tell by her fancy car. Using his voice, but not to sing, Rusty went on to do his thing. All knows he went to radio school, And some say his voice is really cool. And here comes the man, who owns those hog farms, You can tell he works, just look at those arms. But Jeff Kohl confessed, he has more time for fun. Those 16 kids can get the job done! Kathy Miller is in politics, or so we hear, She’s out to ban the pill and beer. She did some research, I understand, And decided she wants the streakers banned. Richard Jarecke is Dean of West Point now, He keeps the boys in line, and he really knows how. And if you see him don’t say hi - Simply salute him - and walk on by. And who's that standing over there? Why, it's Connie, we can tell by her hair. We hear she's married, and lives on the hill. But Mike and her say, 20 kids are a pill. Laura Kingma now works with flowers. She waters and loves them all by the hours. She's very sweet and tender and nice, Men use her flowers a lot to entice. Jeanne Pickrel has always been bent On being a dental assistant. She toils and works very hard all day, And when she gets home, she’s ready to play! Jeff is known to all as one oi the Coaches. He has his own team, called the Fireball Roaches. Everyone knows when he's had a good season - He lets the boys date his daughter, all in good reason. Karen Colby, now there's a girl. We see that she now wears a pearl. Dean is treating her with much love and affection. And keeping her headed in the right direction. Operations, shots, or surgery, Nurse Denise charges a very small fee. In the hospital she does that and even more, And is married to the doctor on third floor. Look who's here ... the baseball pro. Cliff's fast ball can really go! The Royals only offered him a small sum, So look out Mets, here he comes! Doe Dee, the most famous pitcher of all Is very well-known for her famous fast ball. And in her spare time, she acts on the stage. In New York City she's the latest rage. Well, it's good ol Barb, just think of that. We heard she graduated from Platte. At last she's an excellent full-time nurse. And you can bet she has a good-sized purse! And here comes Bob, the Army man . . . He just returned from a trip to Japan. And now he'll go to live in the hills, And live a life without any bills. Kathy Beck owns both the taverns, And calls them Kathy's Roadside Caverns. She's incorporated and owns a chain, From Texas to Canada, Las Vegas to Maine. Richard and A1 went into farming, you know. Together they can make almost anything grow. They don’t make it much, and will only beg For a useful cause, and a 16-gallon keg. A jockey is where Mary made her fame. She was doing fine, till her horse went lame. She turned to Nursing after this, But the horses and barns she really does miss. Ellen Wemnoff, RN, is the title. She travels all over, to give recitals. Her family is large, and covers great space, And a smile and much love glows from her face. And now we come to Duane Miller, the great. Who knows where he’ll find his fortune and fate? He was a fabulous painter, we must declare, But he became a cop, so you'd better beware! We'll miss this class of '74, As we watch them march out the old school door, We wish them the best from old Mother Fate - We want you to know that we think you’re great!
