Senior Class History In the fall of 1949. twelve little tots tiptoed to their chairs in the kindergarten room of Clarks Public Schools. They were: Mary Jane Booth. Ronnie Beck, Clifford Colbert, Jimmy Dittmer, Jimmie Hoffer, Cheryl Murphy. Denny Osterman, Jean Pierce, Asa Lloyd Pollard, Roger Richards, Margaret Rose, and Joan Stromberg. Our teacher duringthat important first year was Mrs. Pullen. The following year we all advanced into the first grade where our teacher was again Mrs. Pullen. As we wound our way into the second grade we lost Roger Richards, Margaret Rose, and Jimmie Hoffer. Joan Branting, Linda Schott, and KoAnn Sherrill joined us and Mrs. Pullen was our teacher once more. In the third grade our teacher was Miss Sweet. This year we gained Mary Hardy, and Bobby Hardy and lost them a few months later. Ronnie Beck also left us that year. The following year, as fourth graders, we moved into Miss Messner's capable hands. Don Kelly joined our class that year. In the fifth grade we gained several new members. They were: Floyd Belt, Richard Brauer, Kathryn Cahill, and Jimmie Hoffer. Mrs. Sloan was our teacher. Before the year was over, Don Kelly, Richard Brauer, and Floyd Belt left us. Twelve of us reached the halfway mark in our school careers when we entered the sixth grade under Mrs. Sloan. We traveled on to the seventh grade where Ron Zegar, Joan Zelazny, and Ray Zelasney joined us and Mrs. Craig became our teacher. Jim Hoffer left us that year. Mrs. Craig taught us again during our eighth grade year. We gained John Kohl and Jerry Kohl that year and sixteen of us received our diplomas in the spring. Several new faces were seen as twenty-five excited freshmen started their trek through high school. They were: Ron Beck, Twyla Church, Kathy Dexter, Richard Friedrichsen, Dan Grafe, Gene Heule, Linda Little, Eugene Urkoski, and Marlene Williams. We chose blue and gold as our class colors, the American Beauty Rose as our class flower, and Live and Learn as our class motto. Mr. Strickland became our sponsor. djLOM w 1 During our Sophomore year Jerry Kohl and Joan Branting dropped out of school and Ron Beck left for Central City. As Juniors we lost John Kohl when he dropped out of school. During this year we received our class rings, presented our first class play, If Mother Only Knew and entertained the Seniors of ’60 at the annual Junior-Senior Banquet. For this festive occasion we chose A Song In My Heart as the theme. We gained Randall Zlomke and lost him a few months later in a tragic accident during our Senior year. We went to Haberman’s in Hastings to have our Senior pictures taken early in the year and we presented our Senior Class Play, Dear Diary in April. The Juniors entertained us at the Junior-Senior Banquet on May 4. The theme was An Evening In Paris . We went to Denver, Colorado on Sneak Day on May 12. The Class of ’61 numbers nineteen as we near the goal toward which we have been working for so many years—graduation.
