Of the orginal fifteen, only nine remain to graduate with the Class of 59 . They are: Karen Kluck, Earl Colbert, Janice Bender, Dwight Strobel, Cecil Branting, David Booth, and Sharon Stem. From here the Class of 59 went on to the first grade, to be taught again by Miss Butcher. During the year we gained Mary Catherine Lahowetz and Dixie Dodd, and lost from the orginal class, Frederick Wheeler, Gayle Stromberg, Ronald Devish, and Jim Jarecki. We also lost Sharon Stem, but she returned to us for our last year of grade school. As pupils of the second grade, we had Mrs. Pullen as our teacher. We gained Wendell Land during the year. Our class remained the same during the third grade, with the exception of exchanging Mrs. Pullen for Miss Sweet as teacher. For the fourth grade, we kept the same teacher, but gained another member, Pat Graves. With Mrs. Sloan to lead us through the fifth grade, we gained Irma Mustard. In our sixth year, with Mrs. Sloan still as our teacher, we added to our number: Ruth Nelson and Roger Roumpf, while we lost Jim Little, and Robert Luce. As pupils in our next to last year of grade school, as had the same members, the only change being our teacher. Miss Gagle. Our last year as grade-schoolers saw us gain back Sharon Stem, and a new addition for part of the year, Gwendlyne Collins. Our teacher this year was Mrs. Caroline Craig. Those graduating with the class from grade school were: Janice Bender Cecil Branting David Booth Earl Colbert Charles Clauff Pat Graves Karen Kluck HIGH SCHOOL DAYS Green Freshmen: At last we had reached one of our educational goals; we were in high school, even though we were only lowly Freshmen. We were privileged to have Mr. McMahon as ortr sponsor. We gained Jerrie Dexter, William Rice, Richard Zegar, Jim Little, Donald Lewis, Larry Phelps, Monte Williams, Emil Zelasney, Tom Kuhn, Larry Kohl, Jerry Ksiazek, Robert Kohl, Marvin frfyers, Dixie Dittmer, Joan Dush, Arlene Scholz, and Rose Zelazny, while we lost Ruth Nelson and Gwendlyne Collins. We selected our class motto, Knowledge is Power ; our class colors, red and white; and our class flower, the American Beauty Rose. George McLean Irma Mustard Ruth Nelson Arthur Osterman Roger Roumpf Sharon Stem Dwight Strobel Silly Sophomores: Our Sophomore year we sponsored a carnival for the school and town. We also gainea Marilyn Kopke and lost Jim Little. We again had Mr. McMahon for our sponsor. Jovial Juniors: For our Junior year, we had Miss Ditloff and Mr. Hauff for our class sponsors. We presented our first class play, College Masquerade and everyone enjoyed working on our Junior-Senior Banquet, the theme being 'Hawaiian Cruise'. We gained Ruth Nelson and lost Marilyn Kopke. We ordered our class rings from the Herff Jones Company, and received them at Christmas time. Serious Seniors: Finally we reached our last step in high school, SENIORS. We again had Mr. McMahon for our class sponsor. We again had a carnival for the school and town. Our pictures were taken at the Haberman's Studio in Hastings on October 13, and we ordered our announcments from the Belfour Company. And then there was the big moment that we had struggleo for during our entire school career, GRADUATION. Twas the night before graduation, for the Class of 59 And they were all wondering what changes would be made, and in how long a time........ They were all quiet snuggled in their beds. While visions of the future lie in their heads. AHJ but who do we see still up and about? Why, it's Aladdin with his magic lamp it's no doubt. Please, we beg you Aladdin, tell us what you see. In 22 years what will each of us be? Who's that Mad Scientist with the crazy little beard? Why that's George McLean, my he looks weird. What's he developing in his .laboratory there? Instant People you say, why he wouldn't darei WowJ look at that doll with the coagulated swing, And that blonde, blonde hair isn't the real thing. You say she's now a model for SEVENTEEN, That, my friend, is our classmate, Arlene. Who's over here? It looks like a crowd. It's Sharon and Roger for crying out loud] But who's gathered round them with lollipops in hand? Why it's their 16 kids, say don't they look grand? Look at this lady with the dignified briefcase, it looks private and nice. Why, it's Karen Kluck, we had to look twice. She's taken the place of Della Street, And why, she thinks Perry Mason just can't be beati The champion driver of the midget auto races Is Roger Rourpf, as he sets the paces. Around the curve, look at him grin. With his knees there propping up his chin..... Here is a man that looks kinda dense. What's your name? What, you can't remember? Now let's make some 3ense. You have to remember, think once and think twice. Everyone knows the Man on the Street is Bill Rice. Don Lewis, though now he is not so lean. Writes the worlds' most popular magazine. MAD is it's name, as you might have known. And the humor that's in it is dry as a bone. What] A man with a ring on each finger and toe? You can tell at a glance, he's not a plain Joe Though at present Jerrie Dexter is as free as a pony. He's been married six times and gets allimony. Who's the gent coming this way? Oh Mamma MiaJ It isn't...it is..it's Sargeant Garcia, Earl Colbert has finally taken the job. Of helping ZORRO, frighten the mob. Larry Phelps trumpet has become a whopping success. Playing in Lawerence Welk's band no more or no less. In high school, his solos were quite in demand. And he's known as Hot Lips throughout the land. Now here's a pompous and dignified fellow. With a purple tuxedo, all trimmed in yellow. Why, it's Manners the Butler my he looks meager. Another look and you'll find it's Richard Zegar. Joan Dush makes shoes so petite and small. With spike heels that are slim and tall. With shoes like these she is eight foot eight. And almost as tall as her ten-foot mate. Here's a lady who's a private detective. Catching crooks is her main objective. She needs no one to aid in the search. Not this talented, Alice Church. Who's the man that will save your soul My Goodness Gracious! its Robert Kohl. He sells a magic tonic guaranteed to stop that ache. He's making millions from it, but it's really just a fake. Looks like The Texan is ready to shoot You can't fool us that's David Booth. Since Westerns have taken over T. V. A cowboy David just had to be. Here's a girl who will make much music where ever she goes, She's a ballet dancer with bells on her toes. She is so petite, graceful, and slender. One more look tells us it's Janice Bender. Who is this diving for pearls in the sea. I'll bet it's no other than Rose Zelazny. She lives on an island in the South Pacific, And her success is nothing short of terrific. Who is the gal that is slapping the creature? By the looks of her, she's a reform school teacher. Every day the Mischief Kids shfe braves. No one could take it like Pat Graves. What's this? A family argument? We don't understand. Why is he beating her with the belt in his hand? In high school their love seemed so faithful and true, Dwight Strobel says he made the mistake of saying I Do . Here's a man, he's jumping with joy. He says it's because he finally has a boy. Monte and Linda had twelve red-headed girls. But now they've a boy, the heck with the curls. A famous criminal has just broken loose, He couldn't beat the thought of the chair and the juice. Of course you have guessed, it's Jerry Ksiazek, Alias Joseph Steeple, He swears all he did was kill fifteen people. Cecil Branting is a funny old sole. He's taken the place of Nat King Cole. The girls all scream when he walks out. It's his fabulous red hair and freckles that make them all shout] Here's a preacher, why it's Emil Zelasney, A very special sermon he's preparing for me. His church is always full of his congregation. He's said to have the largest one in creation. Mr. Kohl, or should we call you Larry, Please tell us why you never did marry? What, actually do you want in a wife? Ah yes, a rich one to support you the rest of your life. Who do you think was the first man to the moon? Yes, that's right, it was our classmate Tom Kuhn. After graduating, he married the following September, And his honeymoon to the moon was something he'll remember. After Eeverly Cumming married Chuck, She became well known for driving his truck. Although she only drives on relief. She enjoys every trip, be it ever so brief. Who is this with the horn-rimmed glasses? You can tell at a glance he teaches study hall classes. Of licking dicipline problems, he says he doesn't tire. In Art Osterman there is nothing left to desire. Now that we've seen the outcome of time. We thank you Aladdin for lending this rhyme. And we'll now leave the Seniors to lie in their beds. To continue the dreams that soar through their heads. JUNIORS f uKton- gleito. The girls out-numbered the boys, there being fourteen girls and seven boys. But Danny Roumpf moved to Grand island during Februaxy, Phyllis Zelasney moved to a farm south of Havens and Joyce Heule to District 33. We were sorry to lose these pupils. The class enjoyed a halloween party at the home of Susan Sweet. At Christmas time the traditional Christmas Tree adorned the room. Everyone had a hand in the decorating. Names were drawn and gifts were exchanged. Valentine's Day was celebrated with a party. The Valentine box was decorated by the girls. Everyone enjoyed the games, Valentine exchange and especially the refreshments. The group took part in a magazine campaign during the fall months. Over $60 profit was realized, t vill be used to purchase something useful for the school. Nothing definite has been decided. A field trip to the telephone office, depot, and the Ehterprise office proved very educational. In February we were very sorry to have Linda Beck move to Central City. The boys went out for gradeschool basketball this year, so our girls were a part of the Pep Club. Several of the class have begun on an instrument and play in the Junior Band. We have learned many new things and reviewed the old, hoping that we are ready for new adventures as this school year draws to a close. She is to be commended for the fine work she has done, considering the 3hort time she has been in our country. Derilyn Beck, Paulette Kohl, Mary Ann Prososki, Dwayne Rice, Michael Shonsey, Cindy Swedenburg, Eddie Sweet, and Lynda Van Ostrand have begun taking instrumental lessons this year. Derilyn and Michael have been participating in the Senior High band and also got to go to the Stromsburg clinic. This was an exciting day for them. Some of us also have hopes of playing in the band this summer. Peggy Bolen, Janis Church, Connie Cook, Patty Hansher, Margaret Herman, Paulette Kohl, Marilyn Randall, Cindy Swedenburg, Lynda Van Ostrand and Janet Wemhoff are the baton twirlers who twirled at several basketball games. We were sorry to lose Leonard Zelasney at the beginning of March. We're sure he's enjoying his new school. ?ount6. Back Row. Dennis McLean and Raymond Zelazny were new members to the class. A highlight of the year has been the presentation of our little play, The Princess Who Could Not Cry. At the beginning of the year Judy Ostrander brought us a salamander. We did a great deal of reading about them and learned how they are different from lizards. To make our science classes more interesting we have per- formed many experiments. An art experience we enjoyed was making realistic parakeets out of milk weed pods. % 7W tyuide Back Row: Middle Row: Janet Strobel Pat Wenhoff Robert Douglas Johnny Beck Rosetta Branting Front Row: Jerry Dittmer Ronald Herman Shirley Heule Douglas Bolen Diane Van Pelt Tom Bittinger Judy Wieseman Tom Swedenburg Gay Beck Nona Rae Morgan Tommy Kohl Charles Fleeman Charles Kennedy David Morris Marrianne Brunken (absent) The attendance has been especially good this year, with the exception of the period of the measles epidemic.
