Hiking Club tackles MOUNTAINS (flinging to steep rocks, carrying everything in a pack, and huddling around a small propane stove or campfire provided many of the experiences encountered by the Hiking Club. Supervised by Mr. John Harrington, the group spent many a weekend a month hiking in varied locations throughout the Las Vegas area. Many hikes were one-day excursions to mountain areas, hot springs, and waterfalls. The group enjoyed several overnight outings to Zion National Park, Death Valley National Monument, and the Grand Canyon. Usually, about fourteen students participated on each hike. Mr. Thomas Bartling, CHS math teacher, and several parents also helped with the transportation and supervision of the group. 1 Club members lake a break on the Fletcher Canyon hike. 2. Hiking Hub. Graphic Arts builds SPIRIT Xurbo. Clark's fuzzy mascot, celebrated his first birthday with help from the Graphic Arts Club. The group, which previously served the school in its printing department, expanded its contribution to include promotion of school spirit. Calling themselves the Stable Crew, members made an active effort to support all sporting events. Several members filled the role of Turbo, who appeared at games and assemblies. The group sold tee shirts inscribed Wouldn't You Like to Be a Senior Too? and in February sponsored Clark's first Ground Hog Day Dance. Mr. Grant Engle and Mr. Richard Strahan advised the group.
