A long with the athletic teams at Clark, the chess team had a successful season. Finishing their second season under the guidance of Coach Thomas Bartling, the squad played well the entire year. Although they were a young group, their strong finishes in tournament play laid the foundation for many successful seasons to come. Led by junior Kevin Martinez and senior Doug Nelson, the club won many inter-school matches and came in second at the Golden West Rcgionals in California. Frequent practices helped the team increase their skills needed for strong play. Chess players make MOVES I. ( boss (tub. From row: Mr Thomas Bartling (advisor). John Hua. Steve Hudak. Doug Nelson.
