Black History Week arouses awareness of cultural ancestry Black History Week, with the theme We Wear the Crown. began on February 6. in observance of great Black Americans and their contributions to society in different fields including politics, culture, entertainment, science, and human rights. F.ach day featured a tribute to a prominent black American. Some of the people recognized were Reverend Jesse Jackson. Julian Bond. Barbara Jordan. Dr. Bill Cosby, and Stevie Wonder. The students involved themselves in many activities which included a Black History Varsity Quiz, the annual fashion show and a play in tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. There were guest speakers and special days such as Heritage Day, Jazz Day. and Color Day. At the assembly, held on Friday, there were performances by the Souleite Dancers and Pop Lockers. There were various songs performed by students which had special meaning in black culture. Royalty was also crowned at the assembly. Black History Week 47
