Homecoming events provide entertainment for traditional week X op hats, bows, and cancs set the atmosphere for the 1983 Homecoming, Puttin’ on the Ritz. The week itself consisted of five dress-up days, which featured costumes from California surfers to wild punk rockers. During both lunches there were hula hoop contests, a Mini Grand Prix, and the Mr. Cool contest. The first place award for the traditional decorating of the halls went to the seniors. In the VW races, held on the football field, the Junior Class ran away with the top honors while Executive Council followed closely for second. In the alumni assembly, this year’s Mr. Football was Chris Lea, the captain of the football team. The Ugly Man award, sponsored by the Spanish Honor Society, went to senior Rob Silvcstri. Special entertainment came from air bands; the winning group was BTO, a group of seniors. Clark suffered a 39-0 loss to Valley in the Homecoming game. At halftime, the seniors received the first place award for their float. This was the first year Clark has ever had two queens, due to an exact tie in balloting. Cindy Claerhout and Debbie Craythorn shared the honors as Homecoming Queen. To end the festivities for the 1983 Homecoming week was the dance. This year the dance was held in the gym, which was professionally decorated. From tuxedos to gowns, the couples really were “Puttin’ on the Ritz.’’ Homecoming 21
