Varsity soccer ends play at 10-0-4 mark T cam work was the key of this year's varsity soccer s uad, led by captains Alan Taggard. Kirk Bell and Sam Powers. Coach Pat Webb completed his first year in the varsity coaching job. having established himself as a respected leader at the JV level with a three year record of 36-2-6, with two city championships. According to Webb, the group’s strength was the great number of skilled players for each position, such as Clay Sampson, Derek Mattson, and Mark Borlasc on offense: Tommy Porrcllo, Danny McCann. and Greg Smith on defense: and Danny Mazcro and Eric Deutsch in the midfield. Also a great asset to the team was Bruce Follmcr, one of the best two goalies in the city. Although he wished the team had developed more aggressiveness, Webb still felt, “The players are not selfish, and will pass the ball if another player has a better shot. Me also said, halfway through the season, that the midfield was allowing less than one goal per game from their opponents. The first three Zone Tournament games brought wins over Boulder City (2-1). Bonanza (4-0), and Western (4-3). The finals pitted two undefeated teams. Clark and Chaparral. A hard-fought match found Clark on the short end. losing 2-0 and finishing second. In his first year as head coach. Pat Webb was named Coach of the Year. Kirk Bell and Alan Taggard were named All-Zone, while Danny Mazzco was named to the second team. I.
