pays off for season JV determination This year's junior varsity football team had a 4-5 season. “Not bad, was Coach Barson’s assessment. He felt that attitude and willingness were the team’s greatest strenghts. One slight downfall was the “weeding out process at the beginning of the year. The coaches got rid of the people who had poor attitudes or bad grades, a process which improved the team greatly. Coach Barnson felt that their best games were the ones played against Las Vegas and Bonanza High School. In the Las Vegas game he felt they made “no mistakes” and their attitude was just right. He cited the Bonanza game as excellent, despite the fact that Clark lost. Barnson admitted they played a good, hard game, but Bonanza played better. The best defensive back and all-aro' was Mike Saletta, and best offensive Nick Bell. Both contributed much to the overall success of the season. Coach Barnson felt that inexperience was not a detrimental factor to the squad, though at times he started seven freshmen. Coach Barnson hopes that he will be passing on an excellent group of young men to the varsity squad. 1. Back-up quarterback Dave Hibbard prepares to complete a pass against Gorm; 2. lildorado defenders put a hard hit on tight end Jerry Robinson. 3. Boys’ netters attain ‘smashing’ 8-1 year C larks boys' tennis team was strong all around losing only one match (a tight 12-16 setback to state champion Gorman) that kept them from the zone title. Tough individuals and doubles teams made Clark a determining factor in Las Vegas tennis. The team was led by Chris Entzcl. Though only a freshman, Entzcl had a successful year, posting a 31-1 regular season record. He finished third in the southern zone and also a competitive third in state. Junior Kevin Brown, also a factor in the team's year-long success, lost in the zone quarterfinals. Mead Coach Bob Wilcox commented on the season: I knew we could finish from fourth to second but we played tough and took second. Next year we should be in the top two teams. The boys' team defeated Valley l5‘ 2 to 12V2 and Chaparral 16 to 12 to secure the second place ranking. Next year's team should be very competitive as the team will lose only two players.
