French Club studies CULTURE C hange came to the French Club in several ways this year. A new French teacher and advisor, Mrs. Sue Vascy, sparked a vigorous membership drive for the group. An extensive campaign utilizing both colorful posters and word-of-mouth recruiting stressed that members did not have to know how to speak French; interest in the language and culture was the only requirement. The drive resulted in swelling the membership to over forty students. Although the group had several meetings and social activities, one of their most successful events was a luncheon for Mrs. June Hop, a veteran Clark teacher and the founder of the French Club who retired after twenty years in the Clark. Human Relations has UNITY romolion of community support and cultural awareness were goals of the Human Relations Club. The first service project was a food drive prior to Thanksgiving; the food was sent to social workers in the Human Relations Department of the Clark County School District, who forwarded it to needy families. In February, members embarked on their major project of the year: Black History Week. Hoping to familiarize the whole school population with cultural contributions of Black Americans. The group planned a wide range of activities which included a fashion show and a play in tribute to Dr. Martin l.ulher King. Jr. Very popular with Clark audiences, the Lmoja dancers performed at assemblies and halftime shows at basketball games. Mrs. Priscilla Adams. Mr. Kermil Bayless. Mr. Doug Garner, and Human Relations worker Ruth Turner joined in advising the group. • OHkers. Viow iw. Mrs. PnscxUa Mams iadwsovj. Mr KctnwV Ra cs iadwvorj. YveUe xV?$Cta d. Min.
