College prep classes assist students' plans for future education W ith minimum competency mandated by Nevada law beginning in 1981. many academic areas at Clark focus considerable attention on basic skills. At the same time, these departments also provide rigorous courses designed to prepare students for higher education. The Math Department not only offers classes which teach basic mathematical skills but also those in Computer Programing. Algebra II. Trigonometry. Analysis, and Analytical Geometry. In the field of science. Biology. Physiology. Zoology. Chemistry, and Physics give students a background to advance in science-related areas in college. French. Spanish, and German are offered: these classes allow students to meet college entrance requirements and also encounter customs and cultures of other countries. The Language Arts Department features a curriculum designed to develop skills in communication, including writing and literature. English teachers put heavy emphasis on skills needed to pass the Nevada Proficiency Exam. As a part of an experimental program several government classes spent the year in actual role-playing situations. They staged mock political conventions, and held a presidential election (which gave the victory to Ronald Reagan). Other simulated experiences included model courts.
